The day was overcast and cloudy, as it had been for the week prior.  The gentleman had settled in for some quiet study in the library, when the manor's front doorbell rang.  Sighing, he set down his sudoku book and pencil and proceeded through the manor, cursing himself for not hiring a butler.  As he reached the door the bell rang again, and he muttered a weary "yes, yes, I hear you" as he peeked through the keyhole.  Spotting a figure with red skin and silver-on-black eyes, he immediately reached for the lock.

Our local shopping mall was having the promotion of a lifetime: A free trip to the Oscars, plus a free designer outfit, plus a chance to walk on the red carpet. My BFF, Cheryl, was super excited at the news and insisted we go down there and enter the contest together. Cheryl has always been ga-ga over anything to do with Hollywood and the movies. Buoyancy

The most commonly used keyword to tag stories on this site is “floating”. Second is “helium”. So clearly there’s some interest in the subject. It’s fairly common for people in inflation stories to be filled with helium to the point of becoming airborne. How much helium this requires varies widely from story to story.

So today we address the question: How much helium would it really take to make someone float?

Short answer: a lot.

The long answer involves some math.

"POP POP !!!"

Sylvia's eyes puffed out of her sockets and begun inflating on their own since every part of her body was expanding by now, and helium tired to find every last refuge to fill and expand. Her eyeglasses shot away into the open space, as her eyeballs, almost the size of a hot air balloon each, kept expanding and inflating with gas, giving her the goofier look any girl could have at that point, and her whole body started becoming transparent, as she was soon reaching her rubbery limits...
