Inflation Card Game is Released!

Hey all, and I am happy to announce that the Inflation Card Game is out! Kinda. It's still in waay early alpha, but people can play, and see how things work and get thinking about how to make it better! Go here - http://dragon-6860.deviantart.com/art/The-Inflation-Card-Game-92056830

and download away! Hope everyone enjoys it!

No, I would not want to live in a world without dragons, as I would not want to live in a world without magic, for that is a world without mystery, and that is a world without faith.

You just used something like FalseBlue to create these cards,

Their the exact Shape and style of MAGIC The Gathering. if you really one to make a card game, make it from scratch.

The images are good, just use your own Layout design for the cards them selves.

Actually I used "Magic set Editor" and there's a very good reason I used it :) Apprentice, the program that lets you play online is for Magic, so therefore I had to use the MTG base so they would be compatible. I had my own layout, but frankly, it was kinda lousy, and it wasn't able to be used by Apprentice.

Any opinions on the game? Or just a degregration of my effort to make something enjoyable for the community?

Looks good, but you didn't see fit to use my sidekick cards? Not trying to be egotistical, and I realize they were in pencil, just wanted to know.

Also, my deviantart site, keldorFeign.deviantart.com, is free reign for you to use picture-wise. I only have one that you could feasably use right now, but I'll be making more soon, I hope.

You gave me sidekick cards? I had no idea! Sadly, I probaly would of decided against it, i was trying to keep all the cards in color, heh, lost a lot of good art that way, but eh...I thought it looked nicer. but what do I know? :-D

They are here

Anyway, like I said, This is my picture, and you can use it if you want, I'll be making more this month, hopefully. I was thinking you could use that picture for your 'helium tank' card.

InflatorDan,

How about you go make one from scratch, I'm going to play the one that's out there right now.

Heh, thanks ATG, you'll have to get online so we can see if it works! it works with some people, but it also plays hob with routers. We'll see!

I know this project has been in the works for a while, and I'm glad to see you stuck with it. Congrats for getting it up and running.

InflatorDan

i'm just saying that it would be a better idea to stick to these for awhile.

and ATG, i will make a layout for this game, it shouldn't take that long. all i need is the size demention and the all that from dragon_6860

dragon_6860

Hehe, I don't think you quite understand. I'm using "Magic Set Editor" not because I like the magic layout. I don't, to be honest, lot of things that I would change to make it work with ICG. But, I HAVE to use it, in order for it to be compatable with the program so we can play it online.

In the future, if it catches on and we can make up our own program, then of course, I'll have a custom card layout. But until then, I'll have to stick with the MTG layout.

Kudos! Any info on how to get an online game started would be very appreciated. I remember digging around a bit for a game engine for you and coming up with nothing earlier...then I got sidetracked with my own thing.

I just realized this thing basically makes your computer a server. You need IPs to connect. Just so you know some people not be OK with that...

Is there a way to set this up in a lobby, where a central server coordinates the connections?

Yah, I know, it's a weakness of the program :( I've no idea if there's any way to make a central server-type of thing, my knowledge of programing is woefully small.

The list of things that need to be "fixed" in order for the game to work perfectly, at least in my mind are as follows...

1. Most importantly, we need to figure out a way for the cards to display the illustrations. It's kinda the whole point, afterall :-D No idea how, but it can't be that hard...

2. A lobby system. Again, no idea. WE'd need some kinda a central server, and I've got no idea how we could do that.

And that's really it...Oh sure, there's refinements, but those two things are the things that would make it really start to work.

Just for closure's sake: get a PHP/MySQL book and read it cover to cover. Your architecture would consist of at least 4 tables: Deck, Hand, Table, and Discard. User logs in, finds a connection in the lobby, and then the game coordinates the play between the two with a bunch of different PHP scripts.

You'll have some kickass skills by the end of it all, and be able to put your game all online, all by yourself, no software needed.

I'd really really be interested in helping with this if I wasn't up to my eyeballs already in projects...

The problem is if I claimed I knew nothing about programing, that would be doing a disservice to those people who actually knew that much. :)

I know nothing at all about programing, heh, and to be honest, Med school has a bit of a higher priority than learning programing :) It's ok though, seems like people are rather disinterested in it anywho.

I happened across this while I was looking up info on something else and remembered this thread:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LackeyCCG

It's a free program for playing CCGs online, which supports various games through the use of plug-ins. It looks like it could allow you to customize things to a greater extent.

Thanks for the suggestion, but dammit, not again!

Oh wait! You go to the site and it says there's a server!

Hope yet?! I'd definitely check this out, D

Hmm....looks like this may work really well :) Seems like it answers a lot of problems that people would have with it, and it's got a server, so i think this is a good program to use :)

There are two problems though. First, I'm not sure how much time I'm going to have anytime soon, and second, and more important, I need some help from any artists out there. 26 of the cards have only my crappy MS paint illustrations, and I've no sort of backing to the cards. Is there anyone out there who will be willing to give my a hand with either of those problems?

I'll read up on the docs when I have some time and get back to you. It looks like you have to write a plug-in.
