Clothes Destruction

<Hello everyone,

Just wondering how everyone feels about clothes ripping/tearing off? I personally find it a fairly important part of a good story/artwork/RP. I love the idea of trying on different clothes of mine and growing out of them.If you could inflate someone (or me for the sake of the story) wearing any clothing what would you choose?

I think I'd have to choose my yellow and white striped flowy shirt with a pair of my skinny jeans. Maybe a pair string bikini panties? Let me know . :)

Like the inexorable inflation itself, the straining of clothing accentuates the story I think. Although ripping is okay, I prefer popping effects...shiny buttons, a tight leather belt, or even stitches popping along a seam as the swelling body bursts free from its constraints. Not sure if that addresses your questions.

I think if it was up to me, it would be something that has slight stretch to it, but enough ruggedness to where the clothes would stay together till an immense amount of external pressure was being exerted on the inflatee until they eventually gave out ^^ I agree, clothes bursting, buttons popping, etc, its all great parts of the experience, pressure just adds to the sensuality of whats going on.

I actually prefer the clothes don't burst off.  I don't know why, unrealistically stretchy clothes help accentuate the size and shape for me.  Even better when the clothes have things like pockets, or stripes, or an embroidered pattern, and you see it normally, and then when the girl is fully inflated and those same features are all strained and stretched out, it gives a better idea as to the scale of how big and round she has gotten.

I also prefer when the inflatee is wearing clothing that stretches along with them when they expand. Usually a tight one-piece suit or a certain outfit.

Although I do prefer when they're wearing outer clothes like sweaters, coats, with belts and buttons. And those burst off to reveal their inner stretchy outfit/suit.

I want to endorse some of the opinions that have been expressed already, starting with Ratbiker: rending outer garments with something stretchable underneath. Although I have nothing against inflation nudity. Then why something stetchable? Visually, a patterned garment can cue shape. For example, I liked the Violet costume from the 1971 Wonka movie because all the pleats accented her shape.

Patterns can also emphasize a shape that is actually more modest (photo not distorted, actual pattern on costume):

Almost any rending outerwear is good, but not "skinny jeans." Storywise, the inflation victim needs a moment of, "Hey, what's going on? My clothes are getting tighter." Visually, something looser, perhaps with a little "drape" to it, has time to fill up before growing tighter and then straining against the increasing pressure.

Airtankgirl5 and Inflatingclothes nailed it with "professional office wear" and "school uniforms." Such attire is smartly tailored with darts, pleats, panels and seams that accent shape much like the patterns in the examples above. For me, the formal aspect of such clothing also establishes a different situation and mood than more casual attire—consider the difference between run-of-the-mill white underwear versus black or red. (I remember a joke in high school that if one whispered "flesh colored underwear," everyone in the room would hear it and even look around on the silly expectation that there might be some on display.)

So pop those belts, buttons and seams, and stretch that elastic or spandex for all it's worth.

Very interesting post Klaeresource. I love that pic of the woman with the red spots.

I agree with the value of patterns.

Mmm... I have the tendency to not rip clothes, so the character can be left the way he of she was before inflating.
But sure popping buttons, etc can be quite an entertaining spectacle for me too.

Well, the original question was so wide open that I wanted to cover video, stills and the written word. Depending on the scenario, clothing can rip or not rip and still return the character to normal. If we take the Wonka blueberry scene as an example, Violet's clothes (except for her belt in the 1971 movie) survived intact for many reasons: it is a kids' movie and a fantasy. Now imagine the variations:

* Violet's clothing stretches and survives her transformation, but is all stretched out after the squeezing. Now imagine Violet—permanently a bright blue—trying to run the gauntlet of reporters outside the factory while struggling to hold up the tent-like folds of her ruined outfit.

* A "legal" Violet, as depicted in so much fan art, bursts out of her clothing and must borrow a fire blanket to, again, run the gauntlet of reporters eagerly awaiting the return of the five ticket holders.

I like both the ripping and the stretching.

Nice thread, wish i'd looked at it before. I prefer the idea of clothes staying intact because it emphasises the tightness and constriction, and the thought that the clothes are the only thing holding someone together, which is why i have the repeating theme of unzipping causing popping, particularly from the zip teeth grating against the inflated flesh or the skin getting caught in it.

Concerning the optical illusion top above, very glad to see that again and it gives me an idea. There are places which print on T-shirts, sweatshirts and so on - how about getting something like that printed to emphasise the belly as well as the breasts? It could be done quite easily.
