Beta version of VSG (Very Simple Game)

Hello dear all!

No, the game isn't ready yet. But I'll create a thread to post all VSG news in it.

Beta version:
- no scenario
- no help
- no background (you can put yours - background.png)
- no music (you can put yours - koni.mp3)
+ everything else is already there

You might treat Beta it as if you entered a sports club of a sport you've heard about but never tried youself. There's nobody else in the club, you can exercise and use all equipment, but without anybody to tell you how to do it. If you are of explorer type - feel free to take a look while I complete the game.

The bar above shows the magnitude of your efforts.
The middle is relaxation – relaxing all muscles you can afford, but still standing upright.
To the right is distension. In real world – it’s making belly expand a little bit with the force of your muscles. In imaginary world – it’s pushing yourself wider than you are inflated.
To the left is contraction. In real world – it’s retracting the stomach. In imaginary world – it’s clenching tight, keeping together, etc.

Very Simple Game has just 10 pictures of inflatee and no “game mechanics” at all. You can only breathe in this game.
Entire game is about learning to breathe right and exploring exercises you can do with your breath. From this point of view you might treat it as a sports simulator of sorts.

I plan a little scenario which will provide a few exercises for the character and help her to control her body rather than become its prisoner – a story will be 5-10 minutes long.

P.P.S. You still can burst yourself if you like - it will require some tinkering with your gear. By default it catches you each time you're falling from the edge

Hey Lopni!

Looking good so far! I only had time to take a quick look at it, but it's shaping up nicely.

Just a couple of helpful suggestions (once everything is in place of course):

Obviously, you still have a lot more to do, but those are just some things that I think every game like this should have.

Uploaded new beta with Help and changes from version 0 in change package. To display it, please press Lens, then Clock. It's not contrast on this background, but should look good on the final one.

Also, things will be more clear when I add scenario.

In this game you can only breathe. VSG is an intro for future games, showing how they exercise in breathing.

Currently I'm thinking on scenario file format. Still afraid to start ^_^ I'll have to make VSG understand simple commands like
"Player Character is Alice
Alice says 'Here I go'
Alice attaches pump to her navel
Pump inflates Alice
Wait until Alice slips"

Some minor news.

1. Calling out for volunteers ^_^
So far there's only one image sequence in this game - bursting. It's a quick movie 3.5 seconds long made of frames, 70 frames at 20 fps.
Ideally each change in inflation picture should be a sequence. It doesn't have to be long - maybe 10 frames (a movie 0.5 seconds long) between each inflation stage.
Calling out for volunteers to do those 200 drawings for the good of all ^_^

2. License.
I'll change it. GPLv3 doesn't allow you to sell derivative works. That's just wrong, will fix that.

3. Mini-games
Initially I wanted to make mini-games later - come on, VSG is only about breathing! What can you do with breathing! But now I think - yes you can!
It will help scenario language to mature.

1. A tiny piece of Inflate Club by Alec Deluxe. No awesome story twists, no heart-breaking drama, just some invisible competitor (your alter ego?) and this girl on the screen puff-kiss - who will overbear, who will slip first?
2. Idea of Pump1131 - Dunk tank. There's a random queue of visitors, and this girl has to keep together, deflating and resting a bit when she can and enduring as long as possible.
3. Idea of Keiji (unpublished; with his permission). There's a dozen of different treats, and you have to consume them all in the right order. The goal is to eat/drink as many as you can.

No promises on even those above, I promise only my scenario ^_^ But ideas are welcome ^_^

A minor update in the same folders.

added menus, help and some order to this heap of files. These additions became final for VSG.

I'd appreciate if it could be possible to post updates from this version on: like, add a few files, remove a few files. Then you won't have to download 30+ megs each time.

Regarding license. VSG license won't change (GPLv3 - open source copyleft). BUT! I might make boxed games (one-two resource files, everything closed from the eye and encrypted) that are based on VSG, but not VSG - and if you order one, you own it. Sell it if you can and own your money. So far I have one order of that sort.

And now I'm ready to start with the editor. I won't spend much time on over-customizing this really basic game - but some things like "if-then... say-ask..." will be done in VSG.

Anyone can just change the files - and voila there will be male inflation game, or puffy muscles game, or transformation or weight-gain - whatever suits you best ^_^

That's why it's open source in the first place.

Another minor update (version 0.0.3).

A character can now exchange phrases with you - she will say what's written in "scenario.txt"

And I'm sorry to announce that Storytelling Language will have a strict syntax.

For example, you will have to write "Say Hello" to make her say hello. And if you want to ask her if she likes it - you will have to write "Ask Do you like it?"

Some of you will be disappointed - no search of keywords in a sentence, no JSON support... I can add all that, but it will take time while I'd like to move on. So I'll leave this part to you. ^_^ I hope with time someone volunteers to write a pre-processor in any language. For example, a drag-and-drop scenario builder might be nice. ^_^

The manual of Storytelling Language will be available once I finish with VSG (hopefully in a few weeks, no promises).

Time for release! ^_^

VSG is released with one scenario - "Resolve of the trumpet" - to show what it can do. Take a young girl, watch her very first awkward inflation, train her concentrating on doing exercises right, see her grow into a mature sportswoman, and pass a sports qualification.

That's just one scenario, in one imaginary world, all done in story-telling language of VSG. Feel free to add your scenarios, in this or another imaginary world.

Version 1.1 is out

Changes:
* added the story-telling language manual
* now character name must be at least 2 letters long
* added icon and name to the program
* changes of wording in character dialogue in a few places

And with that I think the program has a complete look.

If you need more tools to tell your stories - don't hesitate to ask in the coming days/week/two. Otherwise I'll just move on to the next game, the one WITH game mechanics. ^_^

I hope training goes well because opponents arrived ^_^

In a rough beta there's:
- no puffkiss
- no scenario
+ there are NPCs!

It means that you can bring the character you trained - and try her versus another character. For example, you can see who of you two can get bigger than the world ^_^

A few lines in scenario file let you choose NPC, and turn her to face your character. I'll have to write some story in the coming weeks.

Breathing out - and breathing in. And 11 still pictures of inflatee. How much you can do with only that!

Very much looking forward to your, more easy, game in this editor. For example, you can hide entire breathing thing, leave one pump and let the player click it: click-pufffff ^_^

As for myself, I'm now starting the sequel "Easiness of the guitar" in VSG. There will be puffkisses: lovers kiss via lips - and breath-wrestling without direct contact. The sequel won't have exercises, instead there will be some characters to hang out with, and some competitions. You'll also say "hi" to the character of the first game.

Apologies for long silence

Two minor updates:
+ I've acquired a tiny, win32, netbook 1024x600 in addition to a win64 1920x1080 I previously debugged on, so now I'll make sure new scenario looks clear on all resolutions and all aspect ratios, at least from 4x3 to 2x1.
- Sorry folks, work got me. I worked 10-14 hours last three weeks, working all this weekend and it seems this insane nightmare will continue until your Christmas. I barely finished intro (10% of scenario) by now, while I expected to be halfway! I have no idea when I'll finish. Sorry! ^_^

I posted in two threads on joys of VSG and had an acute feeling of the gap between VSG as it is now and the intensity I want to give it.

Ideally, VSG needs a producer, who will tell me what she/he wants to see happening on the screen, 2D or 3D, PC or Mac or Android or iOS - whatever. VSG needs a script writer who will write a powerful story. VSG needs voice actors to play writer's story. VSG needs either an artist or a 3D artist, who will make inflation look hot. VSG needs an animator who will make lighting, design scenes and make characters move right. VSG needs a PR agent iterating with community what community wants to see. And producer will coordinate all that. Then VSG will become a real game.

I'm just a sports/aero guy, you've seen what I can do alone - it's meh bleh, "potential" is all it has ^_^ Maybe we can gather a bit for a few months?

The last year and a half showed - what I know of team-building IRL doesn't work here. Maybe lost in translation, maybe a cultural difference, doesn't matter - I suck at it. Let the producer do coordination - somebody charismatic and native to the majority of us ^_^

Resolve of a trumpet was a serious sports sim.

Easiness of a guitar takes a different approach. Your character is a regular girl having fun living her life. She doesn’t know anything about inflation. Will she accept an invitation to it?

For those who like it all serious there’s an Airobics class in P-Tech gym.

Easiness of a Guitar acquired the next part, with less inflation, but with a larger story. You’ll hang out and blowkiss with friends – live a little swell a lot. Lovers kiss via lips, sportswomen do breath-wrestling using breathing masks and pressure suits ^_^

You might remember how I've been asking you in September'15 what's more fun to make - a 3D world-roaming game that is closed from editing, or a 2D sprite game to which every player will be able to add pieces. The majority of you chose 2D. Well, here it is ^_^

Okay, a 2D game isn't too fun - a 3D would have been more immersive. But I knew in September'15 that I have time to explore only one option. I'll be happy if someone explores 3D. For now, at least, there's some base for making animated stories, so that the next guy or girl doesn't have to start from scratch.

And - nope, VSG's not the game I wanted to make. VSG is a quick opus I had time for because the time for the role-playing game was spent in waiting for the promised graphics from Kraban. As a result, I started programming in September'15 instead of May'14 - and now I have to round up. I might return to the bigger game in a few more years, if it's still worthwhile then - or might do something completely different, like, writing another small story or just doing nothing ^_^ Don't have plans and don't want to plan ^_^

An addition to VSG - swell-dance

Inflationists are passionate people fluent with inflation. Those of them who dance can express their passion through the dance. When inflationists dance, they can deflate themselves. Their dance also invites people around them to join in inflation

The bigger you are, the larger is your passion. Use the passion your size is giving you to inflate another, and you'll vividly see the sheer power of your passion. Dance for the ones you love, share your affection, express your longing to see them swell. Wield passion as a tool, and don't let it overwhelm you

Also, becoming bigger costs you in agility. When you are big, it becomes harder to deflate yourself via dancing

These limits - the minimal loss-of-control volume, and the maximal able-to-deflate volume - coincide somewhere around your capacity. Exceed it - and you risk turning into a helpless balloon expanding bigger and bigger with no end, with an end too soon. That's inflationary V1

Dance alone won't return you from beyond V1. Use your wits, use all your strength and you might deflate back to safety. However, coordinating both deflation dancing and deflation breathing is much harder and more exhausting than only dancing or only breathing
