I can't be certain, but I'm fairly sure my first encounter with inflation came from a couple of illustrated children's books I owned when I was young. One was The Three Little Pigs, which featured some interesting illustrations of the Big Bad Wolf. Every time he would huff and puff, his chest would inflate in this enormous, exaggerated fashion that looked really impressive to my young and impressionable mind, especially the way it made the buttons on his vest burst off one by one. The second book was a collection of Aesop's Fables, and included an illustrated version of The Frog and the Ox. The frog's inflation was basically a four-panel sequence, showing him getting bigger and rounder, before culminating in a huge starburst explosion on the opposite page. I actually have a scan of the page lying around somewhere. I'll have to see if I can't dig it up...
At any rate, both of those books helped to plant the seeds of my fetish, or at least influenced its development in a MAJOR way. Cartoons did the rest. XD

For me, it started at a very young age, about 5 or so. My parents worked, and so I went to daycare where they would often play videos to keep us entertained. One video was a terrible live action video of songs that we would sing and dance along to. One of those songs gave the kid's instructions like "Pretend you're a fish and swim around the room!" "Shake like jello!" and "Spin around like a helicopter!"
The very last instruction is "Now we're all balloons filling up with air!" In the video, the two men singing the song inflated, and the song ended when they popped. I remember the whole group of us puffing ourselves up to look inflated and falling on the floor at the end. At one point, a friend and I took to putting the pillows we used for nap time in our shirts to make outselves bigger. It kind of stayed with me....
