Laws Broken: Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory

here is a YouTube video I found by a lawyer examining Willy Wonka & The Chocolate.

some laws suck.

Film Theory did a piece on the factory almost a year ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jD83QaWy8LI

Something the commenters have pointed out on both videos is that these analyses are based on US law, but the factory is likely located in the UK. The film was released in 1971, so the governing body regarding health and safety in the UK did not yet exist and their methods of operation are probably different than that of their US counterpart.

To be fair though, Wonka runs an international business, so he would have to follow US laws, as well as any other government's food and health laws as well, and I doubt he only ships to the US and the UK. The fact that the 5 ticket holders just so happened to all speak fluent english is a improbability in of itself, but that's neither here nor there.

I suck at writing but decent at drawing!

If you go by today's laws....maybe. But in the 70's, you only use the laws that apply in the country your operating out of and some international laws.

Okay but laws (including those of physics) be damned, how do we get that five-course-meal gum to be an actual thing?

About a decade ago, there was some discussion and research into a flavour changing gum. It would use timed release sugar crystals that change the flavours of the gum over the duration of the person chewing it; one flavour would fade out, while a new flavour, activated by saliva, would then be released from the gum. They were researching into multiple flavours to go away and then re-release every 15min or so.

I remember reading an article about it on a different forum. Not sure if it was a legitimate article or not, but it was very convicing and made my mind wander. Imagine unwrapping the gum, popping it in your mouth, tasting tomato soup, then roast beef, then... omg.. blueberry pie!

Although, the "blueberrification" process may still be a long time coming...  ^^;
