New to Inflation

Hi,

I'm new to this site and joined because I have many questions about inflation that the sites I've visited don't seem to answer.
I only recently heard about inflation when I started dating my boyfriend. We have a very honest relationship and one night he told me about his fetishes (FA and inflation). I had never even heard about inflation before he told me he was into it.
I have so many questions about it but he seems unable to answer them and I think it's partly because he's not completely comfortable with discussing them; I am the first person he's ever told.
I think it's totally cool, if not completely refreshing that there are so many people who don't find the current trend of anorexically thin girls appealing. He's actually told me I'd look even hotter if I gained weight.
Anyway, I want to understand this. I want to be able to give him what he wants. I just feel like I need to know why it's appealing, what it does for someone, if it symbolizes anything, and how one comes to be attracted to inflation. Anything to help me better understand would be great.
Someone recently told me that they knew when they watched Charlie and the Chocolate Factory when Violet inflated. Totally changed the way I now view of that movie. :)
Any help/advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks people!

"Why is this appealing?" is a question I've asked myself many times over the years since (more or less) becoming a part of this community, and I still can't think of any worthy conclusions beyond what was said on ye olde Deviant Desires entry. That is (and I'm quoting roughly from memory here), that expansion is a metaphor for arousal. There's embarrassment, some apprehension, but also a loss of control and implied excitement. One can also assume that someone popping from all the pressure is... Well, the natural conclusion of persistent arousal, of course.

Although some don't care for actual popping. That's just an example of the many varied preferences in the community, which are diverse and I won't go into right now. And although Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is a popular "entry point" for most, everyone has their own origin story.

There is a relationship in inflation with weight gain, but it defers in that it is wholly fantastical, and that may also be key to its appeal.

My advice is to just check out the art and read stories - find out what you enjoy about it so you and your boyfriend can find some comely middle ground. I'd suggest some, but... I'm sure other folk will do that.

Who knows? The psychological basis for many fetishes is still under debate. Ask any inflationist what their first inflation-related memory is, however, and the response will generally be Roger Rabbit or Willy Wonka (in fact, blueberry fetishism is a sibling to inflation fetishism, as they both stem from the same basis). The difference is that as the brain matures, these early memories of inflation can have a small chance at turning sexual. (VERY small, as evidenced by our member count :P) The fetish itself has two primary cousins, that of BBW fetishism (a.k.a.: fat fetish) and that of maiesiophilia (a.k.a.: pregnancy fetish). Although many people of each respective branch of the expansion realm of human sexual fetishes tend to express a lack of attraction to the other two, there are still people who eclectically embrace all three.

Within inflation, there are four major categories (what I call the four B's of inflationism): belly, breasts, butt, and body. Belly inflation is exactly like it sounds, and is most often mistaken for pregnancy. Breast inflation isn't easy to mistake, same with butt inflation. Body inflation is full-blown expansion (pun intended), as it involves the inflatee taking on a spherical shape, not unlike many cartoon-style inflations. Many full-body artists will make an attempt to make it look more realistic, as well. This form is most often mistaken for BBW or fat fetish art, as many are not aware that the subject is filled with air or water and not with fat.

Preference for popping depends on the person, and even then there's the degree of realism to factor into the equation. It's mainly a matter of personal taste. Most of the style you'll see in inflation art is a very non-threatening sort of style that can only really be described as "anime-style cuteness" that still comes off to fetishists as attractive. The more realistic inflation artists will tend to go for a more sexualized image.

As for the realism factor of the fetish, we all acknowledge that the scale we draw it on or visualize it on cannot possibly be attained. In that sense, I suppose it's not unlike some of the other severely screwed-up fetishes out there (I won't name names :P).

And, I guess that's pretty much your crash course in inflationism.

Thanks for your replies.
I guess it's hard to understand a fetish when it's not your own. I may never fully understand it but we're finding middle ground.

This is an awesome thread. Very interesting how she comes in and ask us this stuff. So cool, and very mature way of dealing with your partner's fantasies. What these guys have said has also lots of different branches. Ask your boyfriend to try and explain what he likes, his favorite stories and drawings, and talk to him about them (after reading and seeing them). Make him feel you are completely comfortable talking about it with him, so he gains confidence

Failing that, you can tease him in various ways involving a bike pump.

...But yeah. Mature approaches are good, too.

If he likes to be teased...

If I had a girlfriend and she knew, what i would like her to do for me is tell me who she'd inflate, and tell me how ;)

Thanks so much for all the responses!

I asked my bf for copies of his favorite inflation stories, pictures and videos. I find it all so interesting. I think he's still a bit uncomfortable though.

It seems so strange to me that he is. We've been friends for 3 years and just started dating. He tells me I'm one of the most open minded person he knows, yet he gets nervous talking to me about it...

Is there persecution about inflation fetishes? Until about a month ago I wasn't even aware there was an inflation fetish...

Anyway, I'd like to possibly alter the focus of this post to sharing inflation favorites (or does a post like that already exist?). I'd love it if members would post their favorite inflation stores, pictures, videos, what have you, here in this post.

Again thanks to everyone for their contributions and thank-you for being so nice to this newbie. :)

You might use "persecution", although that may be an exaggeration...DeviantART is where a lot of inflation artists post their art in addition to this site, and there are some more closed-minded folks who don't recieve it very well. Much of it has gone down recently, partially due to inflation artists doing one or more of the following things:

-Putting a preview image that only shows a face, or something similar.
-Putting all inflation-related art in the "Scraps" section.
-Putting a warning in the Comments field saying "don't like, don't look" in so many words.

But another part of it may very well be that a lot of people have become desensitized to the initial shock of seeing video-game, anime, or original characters inflated with a variety of things. However, the thing that bugs me the most is when people confuse inflation for weight gain and think the two are interchangeable. But that's just me.

First, it's awesome that you are accepting of it and want to know more.

But this is a very personal fetish, so we can only give you vague outlines; he will know what he's actually into. As other have already noted, there are a lot of nuances out there--popping or no popping? air, water, food? what body parts?--and there is no set formula for it. Asking him for his favorite stories is the best way to learn his tastes without him awkwardly having to come out and say it.

It's VERY difficult for a lot of us to discuss this face to face. Typing is easy, you know? I have been married for over ten years to someone who understands my kinks and it's still a little awkward to discuss out loud. He might be uncomfortable but as long as you maintain the attitude that a) it's okay and b) it's fun, he'll come around.

That said...we may not have all the answers--and neither may he!--but we're certainly happy to help. :)

Well said Inflate.

Verona, on my signature, you may find some favorites of mine, and my own DA site, which contains a couple stories Ive written (dont know if your bf has read them. they are recent), and also my favourites of inflation Ive found on deviatart, some of which from artists that have been contributing to this community since before we went to DA.

Maybe your bf has the same stories or drawings in his DA lol (if he has one 0.o)

Granted, they have a presence here, but I do believe there are some works on their accounts that you can't find around these parts. You'll need an account to get past the Mature Content filters, I think. CattyN also has a new site with his more recent works:

In regards to personal favorites, I love The Challenge and I Was A Teenage Blimp Girl (both of which you can find in this site's Story Archive), and "inflatee.jpg" in Big Horse's folder is still a wonderful work that I keep coming back to, visually speaking.

Perhaps if you made it clear to your boyfriend that he can relax and open up, he will. His opinion is more valuable in this case than ours.

I think also, he's hesitant to tell you about it because, honestly, it's a very silly and strange fetish to have. "I like seeing girls inflate like balloons" is a rather strange thing to say, so it's probaly he's just worried that you'll think it's really weird. but eh, that's just me :)

btw, I also write a bit, http://dragon-6860.deviantart.com/ dunno if it's that great, but there it is :) Also, some artists you might want to look at as well is Johnny Swell, http://www.expansionmansion.com/gallery/JohnnySwell

that's all i cna think of though, Glad to see you're so open minded towards it!

No, I would not want to live in a world without dragons, as I would not want to live in a world without magic, for that is a world without mystery, and that is a world without faith.

Actually, Verona, could you tell us what stories/vids/et al. your boyfriend's into? I only ask because getting a general sense of his tastes might help us narrow down the sites/artists/writers you'd want to investigate. As noted by others, there are several branches of inflation, so you might wind up knowing more than you want. (I mean, hey, I LOVE inflation, and I sometimes learn more than I want to know.)

If I were to recommend a site, I'd of course recommend my own (heh, heh. I'm evil). I'm strictly a BI freak with a popping streak; but my good co-operator, BalloonFan, writes stories of all kinds of inflation, both popping and non, breasts, butt and body inflation. (I think he's a genius, but being his buddy, I'm a little biased!) http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ballooninflation

I want to pop so much I could burst!

He is embarrassed because our little community is not exactly mainstream, and because it's weird. That is also why a lot of us use pseudonyms. I know I would be extremely embarrassed if my family, or my boss, or my friends found out. It is different than guys liking big boobs - that is assumed to be almost genetic for the Y chromosome. I would not be embarrassed to be exposed as a big boob lover because I can use the "Hey, I'm a guy, what do you expect?" excuse. Inflation requires much more explanation, and an explanation that many of us do not have simply because we don't understand why either.

That he has already told you as much as he has, and that he has never told anyone else, already says that he has a lot of trust in you. I, for one, am gratified that that trust does not seem to be misplaced, as you seem to be pretty accepting (if not understanding, yet) of his fetish, and a level-headed person in general.

As others have said, the "inflation" fetish is pretty much an umbrella term for lots of other mini-fetishes, and it means different things for different people. I personally do not consider weight gain to be an essence of inflation, but others might. Likewise, using water instead of air may not be inflation by definition, but it is nonetheless considered such here. Vertigo's first post on this thread sums it up pretty well.

Personally, I am a pregnancy and inflation fetishist. My wife knows these things and accepts them. She has even adopted a pregnancy fetish of her own now, and gets as turned on by the thought of her pregnant as I do. But the inflation part is just too weird for her, and that's fine (she just kind of rolls her eyes and laughs whenever I mention something like that). You don't have to like it either, so don't feel pressured to just to make him happy. He will be happy as long as you just accept it as one of his vices and tolerate his goofy desires.

Again, I commend you for checking into this like you have. Your guy seems to have found a good one.

Verona

You have no idea how cool you all are! I really appreciate your responses and your kindness. I am sure many other sites, and people, wouldn't be as willing to educate an uninformed person like myself. I am very glad I came here. I was really nervous to post intially but you all have been so nice. Seriously, thank you!

On another note, I've been reading and viewing A LOT of inflation stories, pictures and animations. There is so much I didn't know and sometimes I feel so overwhelmed by my lack of knowledge. I guess my interest stems partly because I am so in love with this guy and partly because I want to have a little bit of knowledge of everything.

While I am waiting on my boyfriend to send me his 'favorites' we did discuss his general interests. He likes inflation by water or any sort of liquids. He is not into popping as it's associated with discomfort, pain and/or death. He is attracted to the idea of a girl being completely helpless as well as the process of expantion. He is also into weight gain, larger women and pregnant women.

I find it really refreshing and love this about him. There is so much pressure on women to be size 0 that when my bf is asking me if I'd be willing to gain 10 pounds I have to smile and think "Why can't more men be like you?".

Anyway, I'll post his favorites when I get them. Special thanks go out to hajile as my bf has viewed this thread and especially enjoyed the links you posted.

Thanks again!

~Chase

Don't be too overwhelmed by it. It's still not nearly as voluminous as, say, furries.

...Did I mention there's furry expansion, too? I guess some people saw too many cartoons growing up.

Anyway, you're welcome, but I don't think I deserve "special" thanks for happening to have the same tastes as your beau. In my experience, a person is just somehow "wired" to like certain aspects, and you're better off convincing a rhino to not charge than you are to show them the appeal of others.

dragon_6860
dragon_6860's picture

Don't feel overwhelmed, Heh, it's a lot of stuff to take in, but you've got the basic stuff. I think the key, at least when i've explained it to my GFs, was to keep it fun. It's such a silly and strange fetish, i don't think anyone, at least i know of, really takes it serisouly.

No, I would not want to live in a world without dragons, as I would not want to live in a world without magic, for that is a world without mystery, and that is a world without faith.

hajile

I think that statement is a bit misleading. A fetish implies they're "taking it seriously" in a sense. Whenever I say that I usually elaborate, and even then it's somewhat subjective.
