I thought there were pictures of them attempting to do suit inflation with the Annasophia Robb Violet. Or was that a clip on one of the DVD's?
I'm just curious how far they went.
For the record I really like both inflations. Both did different things and have diffrent effects, there's no superior one to me.

I meant like they did experiments before deciding to do all CGI. Yes I can tell that was CGI in the movie, the finished product. But I swear I saw pictures at Blueberry woman (RIP) where Robb was in an inflation suit, before they decided that CGI would be the way to go all the way.
The "Deluxe Edition" DVD includes a second disc with supplementary material. Robb test fitted an inflatable suit, and there are also shots of another model sporting an earlier costume. Director Burton did not like the costume approach and decided to go with all digital. Too bad. It might have looked better if he had used the "practical" costume and switched to digital to produce a scene more like the maquettes also shown in the supplements.

She blew up to about 20 feet across, there's no way an inflatible suit was involved in any way. It was all CGI.
