Okay, so I know that a while back, Dragon-6860 made an inflation card game roughly based around magic-the gathering. Well, based may be too narrow, but it had tapping resources to get desired effects and such.
Thing is, I just had a dream, and when I awoke, I had, like, 90% of the rules for a different card game. Unlike Dragon's Game (which was still good, and I am not trying to upstage) it would NOT be a CCG, and instead would come in one 'chunk' (rather like Munchkin or Ninja Burger.) Anyway, roughly, here are the rules:
There are three decks, an "inflation" deck, a "character" deck and a "goals" deck. At the start of the game, each player draws five inflation cards, 1 character (which they place face up in front of them) and 1 goal (which they keep secret).
The Character deck features characters, and represents whom you are trying to inflate at this point in time. Each character has a "maximum size" and maybe a special ability or two.
Goals list a goal for the character and a point value. For example, one goal could be "Be at altitude" and the point value would be 5
The inflation deck holds 2 types of cards, inflation cards (such as Helium, Water, Air, Food, Magic Spell, Lifting potion, ray gun, whatever). These cards all have 2 ratings, a WEIGHT rating (ranging from a positive number to a negative number) and the volume rating (showing how much of your maximum volume they take up)
Interrupt cards can be played on yourself or other people, and include cards like "That was Actually . . ." which changes what someone just inflated with, "Science gone amok," "Popping," and others.
Turn order goes like this:
1st phase: at this phase you MAY declare if your person is "contented." If you declare this, then stack up all your character's inflation cards, the character, and the goal (which is still kept secret) and place them aside. They are now worth points and are out of the game. (The points they are worth equal their total volume, plus the bonus points if they completed their goal).
2nd Phase: Draw. If you currently have no character, draw one and a new goal. Then so that you have five cards in your hand.
3rd phase: You MAY play one inflation card on yourself.
Interrupt cards may be played at any time, either on yourself or on others.
Other Rules:
Your character starts with a Weight of 1 (unless otherwise stated.) If your total weight is in the positive, they are 'grounded.' If their total weight is EXACTLY 0, they are "Neutrally buoyant." If their weight is a negative number, they are "At Altitude."
The game ends when all the characters are gone.
So what does this all mean?
"Great" says you. "This'll never amount to anything. You could never make the game." And that's where I beg to disagree. See, the thing is, it's a set deck. So all we have to do is come up with some images. Then anyone can print them out and glue them to the faces of some playing cards, and badda-bing badda boom, instant game.
So I've been thinking about this all day, and I have come up with some ideas. Cards and such, some rules that would make more sense, make the game go a lot faster.
Question is, would you guys like to see this game? I could start asking around to use artwork (and I could start refining the rules), but I am not going to do it if no one wants me to. It'd be fun but only if I could get input and know that others were into it.
