My turn to ask "where's this story"

I remember a story about this anthropologist(?) who is studying some tribe, and it was written in first-person. While she is there this monster that the tribe fears attacks the town and everyone runs screaming while she and two other women inflate with some kind of liquid. The monster tastes the liquid from each one, but the first two taste bad so they are both popped or eaten whole. But the narrator's tastes good, and the monster drinks all of hers and then stomps off uneventfully. If I remember correctly the anthropologist decides to stay with the tribe so she can offer herself up to the monster in the future and spare the other women in the tribe.

I don't remember the title or the author, and I haven't seen this story anywhere since it was in Sladky's old Expanding Horizons MSN group. Does this ring a bell to anyone?
