Inflation World

Here is a world I hope to flesh out. ^_^ This idea is not entirely original but I wanted to pursue it and deepen it. It is similar to, what's his name? Nagi's? Nagi's inflation worlds. The idea came from a text game I stumbled across on "Pop-in". I loved the rich detail, yet simplicity, of the descriptions. And so I felt inspired to create and expand the idea.

Forgive the pun.

Now just a sort of warning to you all out there. This features popping a lot. It is one of the central ideas to this world. Now, you have been warned. I don't want to be accused of depressing anyone.

But I would love any ideas, suggestions, or feedback. ^_^

Enjoy!

Picture, if you will...

A world very much, and yet unlike, our own.

This is a world where things are different, in the people themselves.

For some reason, men are incredibly rare in this society. There are very few boy births compared to the number of girls. This has resulted in a transformation of culture, art, history, and social relationships. But that is not the only thing different about this world...

For some long forgotten or unknown reason, women are capable of inflating their bodies. Expanding themselves in a multitude of ways. From merely breathing in massive breaths, to foreign air or liquid inflation. This ability manifests itself around the age of sixteen to twenty. During something that is close to a second puberty, the woman goes through sudden hormonal fluctuations as well as a sudden spike in the development of the hips and breasts. This also happens to be the normal age for a first born child or marriage.

Perhaps this was a biological quirk from when ancient primates first began to deviate from eachother, a defense mechanism. Or maybe this all occurred from some long forgotten engineering of an unusually advanced long lost race. It could be that a virus, bacteria, or other organism evolved and is now living in the very dna of the people alive today. Or perhaps this is something that science will never explain, though they will try. Maybe it is an ancient curse put upon the world's first women. It could be how the dieties of the world shaped us. Or perhaps... there is no explanation. But the ultimate truth is, it has always been and it will always be.

To you, this could be a world of nightmares, or a world of heaven. It really depends. But before you declare this to be the ultimate perverted fantasy, there is one more thing you should know.

This is a place where... women pop. A lot.

For yet another forgotten reason, it has become normal for women to pop. Overinflate to explosion or be burst by pins. It has become a part of modern day culture, and in many it always has been. This bizarre behaviourial norm has been at such a point, that it is considered odd for a woman to... “die” by any other means. It is also considered weird for any woman to live past the age of forty.

Do you see what I mean now by nightmares or dreams?

But it is also impossible for the population to ever suffer. Births are incredibly frequent, possibly because of this cultural norm. And nearly all are girls after all. Another peculiar quirk of these peoples' bizarre biology is that a woman can never inflate when she is pregnant with child. Some form of natural protection perhaps?

This is a world where being a woman... is not really a good thing. But at the same time it is. Peculiary enough. Because there are so few men in the world it is considered odd for them to be in positions of power or influence. Women took care of most things in society's history and continue to do so. Politics, work, teaching, nearly everything is done by the women. There is no prejudice against men, but male supremecy is incredibly rare. In fact, there are only a few countries in the entirety of the world that employ the patriarchy.

Another silver lining in the inflatable life is how pleasurable the sensation is. Another peculiar quirk, inflating one's body teases every nerve in impossibly strong ways. Many women inflate simply because it is a powerful form of masturbation, a wondeful form of sexual release. In fact, it is a widely accepted belief that all women experience the most powerful climax of their lives when they pop. This is evidenced by their sudden exclamations of pleasure and desire to burst when extremely close to their limits.

Sexual attraction is another thing that is... different... in this world. While the slender female body is appreciated, it is only so here because it shows a more dramatic change between normal and inflated. Many men are drawn to voluptuous or “overweight” women. It is simply considered normal. And of course, a higher volume capacity is always considered to be a plus.

While sexual attraction is healthy, romantic relationships are not... In fact it can be, and in some places is, the greatest cause of depression amongst males. To women, a romantic relationship can be, and usually is, a loving, devoted, life long commitment. There is no phrase as “growing old together.” As such, there can be fear of popping. But there is almost no angst around romantic partners. In fact, the biggest cause of angst for women in relationships is not having one. As there are so few men in the world, maybe one in twenty perhaps less, there are many who will never have a relationship. So it is generally accepted that a woman will marry the first man who approaches her.

Now, I mentioned a potential cause of depression in males. As marriage and love are life long commitments for women, this is not so for males. It is not unusual for men to live to be ninety or even past one hundred. This is more than double the expected female lifespan, and so a man who marries when he is twenty, is practically gaurenteed to spend at least sixty years of his life alone. Unless he remarries. Some more vulgar men consider this a plus. You get to keep switching and no one gives you any flak for it. But there are many, many more that feel despair for at least their first loves. There have been innumerable cases where childhood friends grew up together, fell in love, got married, and then the girl popped. Leaving her life long sweet heart alone. This is perhaps the greatest heart ache of all. As such, many boys are taught or forced to abandon all hope of long love. They are taught to be passionate, but detatched as well. You can decide for yourselves on whether or not this is a good thing.

Also this has led to many odd cultural norms. Due to the mentioned age differences, it is not unusual, in fact it can be expected, for a young twenty to thirty year old to be married to a man well into his seventies or older. This repulses some people, but for the most part is considered normal. There is a quirk about men however, it seems that men gain strength and energy from sex. Thus allowing them to remain vital even in ages that cripple people in our world. Another cultural norm is for a mother to burst at her first daughter's wedding. Only European cultures practiced this, but during the empirical age it spread across the globe. Another, perhaps worrying, norm is crime. Any “homicide” that involves bursting is never really looked into. It is usually passed off as a pervert, like “date-rape” or a competition. That's another thing, it is normal for there to be inflation contests in which only one will come out in one piece. Literally. Once again, it is up to you to determine on if this world is a nightmare or a perfect perverted dream.

In this world, women are the expendable gender. There are so few men they could probably barely fill a large city. The average life span is completely wacked out. And popping is totally normal.

This is a world that can be a perverts greatest heaven or another perverts disturbing nightmare.

Perhaps you will delve into the future of this work.

So... what do you think?

I hope to do some drawings, stories, comics, who knows what else about this idea. We'll see. We'll see. ^_^

I guess I'll go first. I have to say I'm rather intrigued. I'll be looking forward to see what you make from your idea.

Iloveinflation

I'm not a fan of popping, but this seems to be an exception for me, sounds great! I wanna see what this will turn into for sure.

WendigoSkin

Utopia or dystopia? I can't decide.

Murkstorm

I'm seeing some problems here.

First of all, with a male to female ratio like you describe, monogamy would be viewed as highly abnormal and unhealthy for society. You need to keep the birth rate at least equal to, if not higher than, the death rate. Think harems or prides, not modern day nuclear families.

Second, what happens to children who are intergender (elements of both sexes present) or who don't sexually mature? Likewise, gender change surgery would be extremely unusual or possibly impossible.

Third, are there herbs or drugs that alter the female biology enough to suppress inflation or toughen the skin? What kind of women use them, if that is the case?
If the inflatability is genetic, mutations which increase a woman's chances of survival (the high birth rate may be one such) would seem very likely to spread through the population because the carriers of those genes live longer and thus out-reproduce the women who didn't have them.

caffiene

Funny, I've had a similar idea, except with the men who are overpopulated and inflatable; and the women in charge and in positions of power.

There's always going to be logical fallacies in something on this scale, you just have to decide whether you want to go ahead and just enjoy it; or whether it's not worth it.

...I meant that sarcastically.

Thanks for the comments everyone. They're really keeping me on track. I am aiming for a world that both entices and makes inflation fetishists slightly uncomfortable. A journey into a world where the cliches of inflation are widespread and guessing what the cultural ripples would be. Utopia or Dystopia? Great line wendigo. :D

Thanks for all the comments Murkstorm. They really are helping me flesh out things that escaped my thoughts in the first draft and I will definitely think about them for future story lines. That one about sex changes really intrigues me. But, I have to agree with caffiene, that I couldn't think of everything. Though I will try. But just to be slightly annoying, I still think that the ability of inflation may just be of magical or divine origin and thus any attempts at linking to biology are doomed to failure. Though there is plenty of story fodder for those researching it.

All in all, thanks for all feedback peoples!

Interesting. I thought about it: place where people are inflatable, how would they take this ability? And I think inflation would be mundane for them, nothing too special or exciting. Probably useful, or vice versa - inconvenience.
The next step is setting up a scene, where ability to inflate could be applied to something practical. I have a story about such a place: floating isles, inhabited by inflatable people. Isles are rather small, tech is on ancient Greece level, so inflating someone with easily available lighter then air gas is only way of transportation between isles.
Sadly story is in russian. I've made an effort to translate and done couple of pages but then lost motivation and had other business to attend.

lol sounds AWSOME TO ME!! id really like u to get into this!

It's be way cool if they inflated with hydrogen and they have to vent in order to fly, etc.

And yes, I'm QUITE interested...
