Why is 'Live And Let Die' never mentioned?

There's an inflation scene at the end of the James Bond film 'Live And Let Die'. It's completely rubbish of course, but it also happens to be the first inflation scene i saw in a film or on TV. Maybe i've just answered my own question, but it's not often mentioned. It does come up occasionally but back in the '70s, if someone had asked me to think of all the inflation scenes i knew, it would've been just Willy Wonka and that.

Any thoughts? Just because it's terrible?

I didn't even know there was a scene in live and Let Die...then again I've never seen really watched any James Bond movies. I'll have to check it out :)

big-gas-balloon

Not only because its terrible, but because it is male inflation.

WendigoSkin

What was that precisely?

You know, the fact I saw that the same night I first sawthe Wonder Woman show got me hooked on this, only I imagined Wonder Woman forcing the gas pellet into my mouth, forcing me to inflate hugely until I reached the top of the cave when she flies out of the water in her wetsuit doing a belly ram on me, making me explode.

Hey, any reason to get Linda Cater's hands/body on mine.

So? Willy Wonka is Child inflation and that seems to get mentioned and awful lot.

...Just Saying.

Regardless of subject or gender of the live and let die. I find the whole idea amazing. Compressed air pellet forcing to blow you up into a huge balloon.
How could someone not find that appealing?

It's certainly one I always remember. :)

Hisssssssssssss.. ...uh oh!!

What he said.

Those of you who volunteered to be injected with praying mantis DNA, I've got some good news and some bad news. Bad news is we're postponing those tests indefinitely. Good news is we've got a much better test for you: fighting an army of mantis men.

Well well well... this definitely wins the Best Troll award for this particular thread.

Kudos bro!

I think the male thing does put people off as well and it really is pretty awful in execution, but the concept is good and the potential for fantasy is there. I also wonder if they might do it again if they remake it, but i'm aware that the films are not based closely on the books, suspect there's nothing in the book even if there is one and so i really doubt it'll be done well if it's ever remade. However, i think there's quite a good chance that it will be remade since they seem to be going through them again.

I seem to recall in Ian Fleming's novel, Mr. Big (the villain) was eaten by the shark after the underwater fight with Bond. The inflatable capsule was definitely not in it. The movie was campier and much more tounge-in-cheek than the book, but then most of the Roger Moore 007 films were. It was a pretty silly way to dispose of Mr. Big. "He always had an inflated opinion of himself!" Ha, ha.

That said, though, I actually thought the capsule was an intriguing concept. In the film, Mr. Big demonstrates it by shooting it into a sofa, which causes the cushions to inflate (and throw off one of Big's henchmen, who was seated on it) before exploding. I remember thinking at the time it would be funny to put it into a woman's dress and have it inflate around her before bursting, and it was a little disappointing that it was not put to any other (or better) uses in the movie.

It would probably not be in a remake of the film (since it wasn't in the book), but I have to admit I like seeing spies inflate their suits (like Inspector Gadget, or the Totally Spies girls) and love seeing things like that in live action.

It's not trolling if it is true.

Its true, its not mentioned because its male inflation. Its not a value judgment, its just true. Take it as a positive or a negative, its still true.

Back in the day I rented the movie just to see that scene.

Funny what memory does to things though. I apparently first saw it on a B&W portable TV back on 20th January 1980 and remembered it as a lot better than what i saw a couple of days ago on YouTube. Probably better left as a memory. I was only twelve though.

This was mentioned waaaaay in the old inflation media FAQ. I just don't think it's mentioned often now because it's not as strong an influence for more recent folks. It's not anime, for instance. :)

I believe the execution of a scene might make it enjoyable even if it is a male. The scene in "The naked gun 2" is very impressive every time I see it. So impressive that annoys me, and at the same time I totally love it. I would have loved the woman to watch this guy inflating and reacting to it.
I've never seen that James Bond scene(nor any movie).

Couldn't have said it better myself. Some that stuff on inflatechan is a bit too much for me. It seems we've been invaded by them.

They come in and spout their distaste for certain types of inflation.

If you don't like it don't read it damn't! That's how I usually roll. I guess they think their opinion is so important so they give it.

While I can't speak for everyone, the reason that scene never really did anything for me is because of personal taste. My favorite scenarios focus on inflation resulting in buoyancy with either a whimsical or highly sexual tone. Live and Let Die features a scenario that I personally find overly serious and borderline horrific (I was an impressionable youth when I first saw it and someone dying like that did not sit well with me).

Formerly known as unknown.

They were just showing a TV show Roger Moore did back in the 60's called The Saint. In the episode he's trying to get some info out of some guy and another person laughingly suggests that they do something he had seen in a movie and stuff up the guy's nose and mouth and then use a tire pump to blow him up like a balloon until he pops. Funny how he would do something similar years later in this film.

See what you fail to realize young one is that I was explaining what to do when you don't particularly like something. You just ignore it and move on. So instead of trying to stir things up, heed my advice.

I may be young but I'm not ignorant :) But regardless, people are allowed to voice their own opinion on something, even if you don't agree with them. I don't see why you always feel so obligated to make a fuss and tell others to turn the other cheek if they don't like it, why it should it matter to you? To each their own.

You should have taken your own advice then and not got all upset over others opinions then?

You are ignorant if you think you are not ignorant. We all are, so I fail to realize your point there. As for voicing distaste for something. Of course that's your right to do but I have a right to criticize people who do so. I think it just comes down to common courteous.

If you don't like something, why do you feel obligated to tell people? If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all. There are several members who would enjoy such inflation and some that do not. You don't hear all the ones that don't like it bashing it, do you?

I'm just saying all in all, it's better to not comment than to voice your opinion for the sake of stirring things up.

That's all I'm trying to say. Feel free to voice your dislike and I'll be right there doing what I do. ;)

Well, as long as we're not off topic, I see everything's back to normal around here.

I usually fantasize about having various female characters force that compressed gas pellet into my mouth, it makes for a better scene to me. Am I the only one?

nineteenthly

Well, it would certainly appeal to me but i don't think i've ever gone there.

It is quite interesting when you see it. His whole body goes up not just his belly or something.

When I look back could this film be the reason why I now like popping at the time of watching I hated it and it gave me nightmares for ages....

Bondage with Inflation.... what more could a girl ask for. If you wish to chat to me I am on xhamster. It is a free adult porn site and you will need a profile. Again this is free. Just let me know your from here and you wish to chat about inflating me

MissBalloon

I really liked this scene.  Used to fantasise about it happening to me!

Inflation is love!

hfilled

I'd only support a remake if a woman used it to dispose of an archvillain to save Bond.  Hope Jolie, Beckinsale or the like are available...

nineteenthly

Oh yeah, that'd be brilliant.  I used to be fascinated by it but i've never used it as fantasy fuel.  I probably should, now you come to mention it.

I wouldn't mind to be being forced to swallow a compressed gas pellet by Selene or Lara Croft with an enourmous "BOOOOM!" soon following.  Any others come to mind, or am I the only one that fantasizes about this?

Es[ecially if they do an ass-plant on my face to keep me from spitting it out...

I rented the movie because of the Inflation Movie FAQ Inflate123 mentioned. It kinda sucked but at that time I was still exploring.

This came to mind again recently, and the same "how come we never talk about it" question crossed my mind. The one thing this thread does not have is the scene itself, which is here on YouTube (even if the audio is a little out of sync):

Also found a behind the scenes photo of the inflatable prop used for the scene: http://whatculture.com/film/james-bond-retrospective-live-and-let-die-1973.php

It is pretty hokey. I know we beggars can't be choosers, but...hoo boy.

pneumaticchick

I thought it was pretty cool when I first saw it, as it was such a surprise to see something like that, I had no idea it was coming, and I've always been into bursting! My surprise was followed by a mild regret that it didn't happen to Jane Seymour's character instead, though! Or Madeline Smith's character, indeed...I went through the film thinking of the female characters I'd like to see get the gas pellet, and Ms.Smith won that little poll I had in my head :D

nineteenthly

Hmm, interesting suggestion and considering the enormous licence taken with the adaptations, i can even see that as a realisrtic possibility.

Yes, on re-viewing it, it looks pretty ropey, but i watched it on a black and white portable TV back at the dawn of my puberty, and it's not like there was much else out there. I hadn't even seen Willy Wonka at the time. There's a possibility of fanfic here, I think. Also, i did guess what was coming.

pneumaticchick

I have to say I haven't seen the film for absolutely ages, so the scene may well be more ropily done than is pictured in my mind! I must re-watch it. I'm surprised I didn't guess what was coming, I guess maybe it was just too much to hope for :)

I must pick myself up for the expression "mild regret" in my last post, it was much more than a "mild regret" that it didn't happen to one of the female characters :D That really WAS too much too hope for, though, they were never going to explode Solitaire with it!  I definitely enjoying the thought of Maddie Smith's "Miss Caruso" character getting the gas pellet now, think I might have to work on something to do with that...I've always had Ms Smith down as a potential balloon-girl anyway, maybe it is time she fulfilled her potential!
