I'll take either, as long as it's done well. I prefer non-anime, though.
Preferred art style?
I find it strange that you don't like anime, yet you use a name derived from an anime character o.o
heh, i started out as "everyone and their mother" types, picking up lots of "How to Draw Manga" books.
But, then i sorta found inspiration in the works of Ben Caldwell, and moved in that direction.
They both have their merits, but i do like how american cartoons make use of more action-oriented body language, over anime's "strike a pose, and hold" style.*
*the "strike a pose" derives from a efficient way that the japanese have found to do animation.

I watched anime when I was 13. Thats also when I started coming online, hence the name. 22 now, and I still use the name since thats how everyone knows me. Why change? Use the name 'Vejita' around my online friends and they think of me over the anime character.
Since I m in the old and academic kind of art school, I must say I prefer the non anime, even though I respect many of the very precise anime artists. You have to say that some of the anime out there is incredible, inflation art or not.
As long as its done nicely, I dont mind. Although, anime inflation is ALWAYS done in the way I hate. Its just belly and nothing else. Although, I think CattyN did an anima drawing that looked kinda nice. Of course, I dont remember if it is his.
I've gotten to like anime... not in any way in particular, just as another style of drawing. I have no interest whatsoever in anime cartoons, or manga, or american for that matter. All I know of anime is that I had a mate in an anime society once, and inflation art. At first I hated anime, but that was because it was suddenly everywhere when I was used to standard western cartoons. To my eyes it just all looked like half-arsed poor quality drawing, but it's grown on me and I can now enjoy an anime drawing just as much as a western one, thought I still have a bias towards western.
I'd have to go with anime, no question.
I like both. Anime is just the style I choose to work with.
What is meant by "American" animation style?
Anything other than anime?
If that's the case, you are pitting one (debatably) homogenous style (anime) against an almost infinite variety of styles (non-anime) and it would be pretty hidebound to just flat out say you like one over the other.
Both categories have variations within them that are awesome and some that are total crap.
Heh heh, yeah. I worded my post pretty badly. I mostly meant typical western style animation. I am aware there are a lot of other styles out there.
And even I like some anime but I just wnated to post to see what other people thought.
I'll just say they both work just as well. As long as it's drawn well and gets the inflation appeal out.
Both are good for me but i prefer anime more, I don't know why.
Hmm I'm on the same note. I don't know about the way it started, but it looks as if anime was a way to create money using cheaper animation styles, mile Hanna Barbara and such. But if you spend the time, both look good.
Glad to see most people like both. ^^
I prefer anime, personally. Not to discredit American-style inflation artists, but I'm already an uber-nerd, so I find anime girls attractive even without them being pumped with God-knows-what.
While people might say that my style is Anime, I would have to say that i do not like the anime style and prefer American cartoon style better. They're more diverse in how you draw, wheras Anime all looks the same. You draw one Anime girl and you've drawn them all.
Perhaps it's because I use to run an Anime club at my college, perhaps it's because Anime has become so "popular" in America, but I really hate Anime now. I use to like it till I realized it's all the same stuff over and over again. There's only a few selected works that I enjoy watching and even then it's rather rare. American cartoons are much more... how you say... flexable in terms of style, so they offer more oppertunities for the inflation community.
I think that just because Anime is popular you get alot of people drawing it, or in some cases... TRYING to draw it. :-p
Non-anime here. Like other phases in culture, anime will always be around, but I think it will eventually lose prominence as tastes change. Right now it's massive and everywhere.
American makes me think of Disney, mostly. That is, a cartoon, but having large eyes (Ariel), just not huge eyes (Ranma). :)
I'd say both styles are ok, I myself use anime style (or at least try to mimic it) in my works. Why? I'd say the way the expressions are pictured out in anime. They can be overexaggerated and all that, but with proper skill one can make the expressions mirror fantastically a person's emotions. I'm not saying that western style can't do that, I just think that in anime it shows out more than in western style.
This doesn't mean that I cannot draw a realistic face, I just happen to like anime and manga style very much. :D
I've got my own views on this but I thought why not see what everyone else thinks.
Whats your preference of art style? An american style? or Anime style? Or perhaps some cross breed of the two...which seems to becoming a lot more common nowadays.
Personally, I can tolerate anime...but I really dont like it. It seems like everyone and their mother has picked up drawing it however. Its EVERYWHERE...especially in the inflation scene.
Anyways, so what do you all prefer?
