Anyone ever see the clip of that episode (I think it was called Mikey's Birthday)? That and was one that's etched in my memory.
Ninja Turtles inflation
Why you post a blank reply?
I was going to post a screen shot of it since I have the episode on my computer, but this site is so finiky on how to post pics, I was having difficulty trying to post it.
Anyway, the exact episode can be found in Season 3, episode 31.
The Shredder sprays a scent over three of the Turtles (Leonardo, Raphael and Donatello) to convert them into inanimate objects. He tried it before on some of his soldiers, which became rocks. But to the surprise of everybody, even to the Shredder, the Turtles inflated to become giant inanimate balloons. April isn't even present here.
I still have it on VHS(in Spanish). I think the first time I saw it I was 8. I respected the Turtles and was a bit annoyed by this. However the humilliation was toned down by a dramatic atmosphere, like "oh, no. This is the end of the Turtles" and Michaelangelo crying. So it wasn't one of the most traumatic inflations I went through(it happened to my heroes pretty often). Now I see it with a little more appreciation, strangely.
It was one of the first I remember. That and Sonic swelling up.
One of my first memories too, complete with the helplesness element and impending doom. Left quite an impression.
Yeah, this was definitely an interesting episode. I don't think anyone would have predicted inflation at all. They get hit with Shredder's gas, breathe it in and start coughing, turn stone-faced, start to blow up while floating higher into the air.
The most memorable part for me was after Michaelangelo and Splinter discovered the rest of the turtles after Shredder just left them there. The animation had their inflated bodies sort of pulsating and "shuddering" as they helplessly floated in midair. It definitely made the whole idea of them being turned into inanimate balloons seem more realistic, at least in my opinion.
That video segment is out there somewhere, I'm sure.
And yeah, I believe I speak for everyone when I say that April should have been involved. :)
Can't seem to see it on 'Tube. And I believe I did see an artist on Deviantart do an April inflation animation.
Here you go, here's the episode from that scene onward: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=J33lrPmJQqw#t=1037s
Already taken down by YouTube. Damn, that was quick.
Were you the one that posted it on YouTube? You could try posting it on DailyMotion (which seems to be a little more lax on copyright stuff).
Edit --- never mind, it's just blocked in the US. Was able to watch using Tor. Thanks for the link!
Much thank Zepylin :)
