You can search for all entires with a specific tag, but you can't search for all entries that specifically don't have a given tag. It'd be nice if I could refine a search along terms like 'nothing by (x author)' or 'nothing with (y tag)'.

The feature exists in the search engine, so it's possible. You can actually do it now if you're willing to endure the torment of manually setting URL variables. But the current module has no interface for it. I'll check to see if there are any updates that support this feature.
