Strange. Reminds me of the Blade (1998) vampire movie, though. There are 2 parts in the movie, one of them major, where something like this happens. Basically, the Blade character has a remedy/serum with him called EDTA (basically a blood thinner that's used in hospitals to clear blood clots in arteries), which when injected into a vampire via a dart, they swell up and explode in a pretty violent fashion. Infact, and SPOILER ALERT, the main antagonist in the movie is killed this way at the very end of the movie.
