Real Life Inflatable Furries!

Has anyone seen the work of Yang Maoyuan?

He's a Chinese artists who specialises in creating artworks made out of animal skins inflated to a HUGE SIZE! :)

I first came across this in a book about Ripley's Believe It Or Not, and I couldn't believe it when I saw it.

I've found some pictures of some of his work-have a look and see what you think.

I particulary like that last one because it gives you some idea of what the size and scale of these creations really are.

To me, personally, this is probably the closest I've been (or seen) to cartoon like body inflation in the real world. :)

Inspiring for horror maybe.

A bit too Macabre for me

I kinda agree with you on that point.

For me this is a bit of a two-edged sword. To me it's like watching a bad car crash-from a visual point of view it's both fascinating and creepy in equal measure.

I remember a while back seeing a news story about a man who had a pet cat, and when the cat died he had it stuffed, it's legs stretched out and electric fans put onto it's feet so that he could use it has a RC Helicopter!.

And to be honest I didn't like that, because, even though it was dead, I actually felt kinda embarresed about it's rather humiliting end like that.

And if I'm honest, I actually feel kind of the same way here.

There are, however, two things about it that I find quite disturbing and they are:

(a) It feels slightly indignified for the animals to be treated in this way, and to be treated like some circus freakshow.

(b) They're DEAD! Despite Mr Maoyuan's skills and intentions these are actually CORPSES, and to do that to a dead body (human or animal) just in the name of art is quite unnerving. :P

I actually saw this in real life... On a scout hike... On a cow that had died from a snake bite
