Inflation with CO2?

I know that with some abdominal surgeries the stomach cavity is inflated with CO2 to allow the surgeon to have more room to work.  A friend of mine had this once (maybe with an appendectomy) and she said that she looked pregnant for several days afterward.

Has anyone had the guts to try something like this?  My wife and I are wondering how feasible/dangerous it is.

Mmm not abdominal, but I've done scrotal a few times. I have absolutely no idea how it's done in surgery, but I'm about 90% sure I've got it right with scrotal, that is one would force gas inbetween the skin and layer of fat protecting the inner parts of the body (please someone correct me if I'm wrong, I'd hate to give misleading info).

Because of this, and the fact that I check to make sure I haven't hit or am close to any blood vessels, I'm not worried about embolism (though I do tie off just above my pelvis so air can't get above it). I'm super aware of infections, especially since I just use a shitty aquarium pump. Yes, very stupid. Yes, SUPER dangerous. SUPER DANGEROUS!

The feeling is almost indescribable during inflation, however you do pay for it later. If I pump a lot of air in, the next week is spent shuffling around like some sort of drunk zombie from the pain in my legs, butt and pelvic region (not sure exactly what causes the pain, oxidation in the tissue from the unfiltered air maybe?). I don't think I'll be doing it again for a very, very long time, if at all, just because I don't want to push my luck too hard and get some crazy infection that requires chunks of tissue being cut out... or more important things! The air does creep pretty far down my legs, though. I can tap my fingers behind my knees (and my balls) and it sounds like someone drumming on tuppaware.

The first time I did it, I didn't tie off and a huge amount of air escaped up to my chest area. Because of how the air was injected, it stayed very close to the surface of the skin and made a sound not unlike rice bubbles crackling when I pushed on it, and you could clearly see little 'bubbles' under the skin. Got right up to my ribcage and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't scared sh*tless of it getting close to my heart. Got that 'pregnant' look, though. Had to say it was a stomach bug when I turned up to work.

Honestly, please don't do it unless you have professional implements with a proper understanding of how your body works. N20 seems to be what everyone uses because it's a noble gas and the body absorbs it very quickly with minimal fuss. I like air because it lasts longer and is *pretty* easy to find. But then I'm a moron :/  I'm not sharing this to encourage people- I'm sharing this so people know what to expect and what the risks are. Look up Fournier gangrene and Air embolism. This is a very real risk of inflating like this.

I've read this a couple of times and am fairly certain this didn't at all address my question, but more power to you.

TrippySquidsman

Ok, sorry about that.

Murkstorm

N20? Laughing gas? That is NOT a noble gas, and can directly interact with nerve cells - the mammalian body uses it naturally as a neurotransmitter.

TrippySquidsman

Aah, you're right- I'm sorry! I definitely should have done some proper research before opening my big mouth :(

Thunder Dash

Sounds risky, But it seems safer since you're not forcing air up the reverse of the digestive tract.

Co2 is very safe. ive used it. there are less cramps and it dont leave you feeling bloated afterwards for hours. just use a regulator if you are using a high pressure cylinder you dont want to explode from 1800-3200 PSI of carbon dioxide simultaneously entering your body. its only good if your inflating analy i dont recomend it orally because it will most definitely displace the oxygen in your lungs and you will suffocate and die. but as far as it being safe. yes most definately. Doctors use it for the exact purpose of cavity distension to move things out of their way while performing surgeries. also it is absorbed rather quickly through your body and expelled once again as a gas through your skin and etc that is why it leaves you less bloated feeling and less crampy. just use the same caution with it on a regulator as you would with any other inflation method. also remember NO ORAL INFLATING WITH CO2!!!!!

I inflate.... A LOT

OH one thing i forgot to mention.... at first when using Co2 you will get a rather Warm sensation in you guts from it... it doesnt burn its just a relaxing warmth that is caused by the carbon dioxide coming into contact with your intestinal walls. remeber we breath out carbon dioxide every time we exhale and it is also in your blood stream already. it will not hurt you unless well... you pop from over inflating. so dont over inflate... its bad for your health :P

I inflate.... A LOT

also it needs to be food grade Co2 like you use for beer kegs or a soda fountain. gah i keep leaving little things out.
