Yep, I'm also looking for a story.
A girl discovers a place in industrial zone where a greenish gas is lifting from under the grate. The gas makes her inflate, and it feels great. When she walks away, the gas leaves her system and she deflates back to normal within minutes, no side effects. So next time she brings her three friends with her, and asks them to put bondages on their eyes so that they don't look that's happening.
First one to inflate - and pop - is the girl called Katie, saying something like "I think this can work for me". When she pops - it's an oops for the organizer of course. To her dismay another girl - Jan - was peeking from under the bondage, so she witnessed the kill. But when main heroine says something like "Jan, wait, I can explain" - it appears Jan is a fetishist who willingly walks towards the grate.
Then, half-way to full, the second friend - Jan - calls to the main heroine - something like, "come here, I want to do this with you, it will be ultimate!" So they take each other's palms and glide them over each other's bodies. Trying to push them between hips until that place becomes too crammed. Then they are sweating, getting big and tight. And when Jan gives a creak - main heroine gives a knowing smile and pats her bubble. But it appears that it's main character who creasks - so Jan returns the pat. She also comforts the main character who starts panicking. They manage to kiss before main character pops, then Jan being the biggest of all pops too.
And the third friend is shy and she isn't sure. So she decides to report unintentional murder to police, but first she will have a bit of pleasure herself. Everything is under control - all she has to do to stop is just step from the grate. But she likes it and prefers to feel the pleasure for a bit longer. And a bit longer.
And in the morning some industry guys are brushing the scraps and saying: we need to do something with this leak.
I've read it more than a decade ago and it's one of the stories that influenced greatly the way I imagine inflation.
I want to give credit to the author. I wish I knew who this is.
Wherever you are, thank you.
The reason - I want this place in my game (although may be without such devastating results - death of player character is obviously a game over)
And how deflation works and how long it takes - that's a chunk of game mechanics.
I really need to give credit in "credits", otherwise people will think that it's me who invented it.
