Thinking of starting to write! Any Tips or advice?

Right so Ive been a member here for a while and Ive always believed of contributing to a cause! So Im thinking of starting to write maybe a few stories, see how it goes! So I just thought Id ask some of you for advice on if youd actually read them and give feedback (constructive ofcourse) and if I should be aware of any 'rules' when it comes to perhaps using other peoples work for insperation. Ive already got a couple ideas bouncing round but Id like to see a response here before I do anything!

Appriciate any input

Rules:
1. Observe the rules of the English language.
2. Many creators appreciate small homages to their work, but when in doubt, ask.  Many creators also love talking about their work :)

Thanks airtankgirl5 those sound like very useful rules! I dont think number shall be a problem but its always good to remember:) Number two I think, I could implement more since I rarely talk to writers (I think theyre too busy to be bothered my me) Im assuming if i simply state at the end of the story what influences I used then that should be ok right?

Also I dont know if youd know this but is there a preferred file format for the site? Word or notepad?

Thankyou for your input

Hi there! ^_^

Well, the rules are the same as everywhere - if you take a whole block from another, mention where is it from. No other 'rules' really.

And yes, language. ^_^ Please use the language well. There are online translators, but they understand only good grammar. Sometimes it's better to write in perfect Chinese than in bad English ^_^ imho

Hey Lopni

Thanks for the advice seems thats the general consensus here. I may look to start writing something on the weekend then.

Thankyou for the input

The most important thing is to keep it short and light. Not only are you just starting off, you're writing fetish smut. Nobody wants to read pages and pages of serious, dramatic background information about the author's favorite character unless it's really captivating. It is almost never captivating, but this is impossible to see in your own work, so people do it anyway. This applies mostly to individual characters; a good amount of background might be appropriate if your setting is an elaborate fantasy. Good writers usually do not just come out and say "Raskolnikov was a bad person and he was crazy," they write scenes where Raskolnikov busts into his landlady's house and explodes her and her sister with a tire pump. Or something like that, I don't remember how the book went.

Think about it carefully if you're planning to write fanfiction. Does writing your story with characters and a setting taken from some obscure anime add anything? Are you doing it because you want your characters to have a little more depth, but you don't want to create that depth yourself? The depth does not exist for your audience unless they know the character too. Even then, it usually does not make the story any better.

Be cognizant of your own shortcomings. I am a pretty shitty writer, but I'm working on it and practicing. I make a lot of typos, and my grammar isn't the best. It's an issue. Unless you're writing e e cummings inflation fanfiction, try to make sure that your grammar, spelling, and punctuation are all at least pretty close to correct.

Hey Pump1131

I recently uploaded a pretty short story and should be posted soon with any luck i dont know when the uploads get released. But what you said at the beginning did make sense i did find it hard to write with backgorund description and obviusly have action going on to keep the reader....well reading. My stories as of yet are just gonna be based on people I happen to know. Ive already got a few ideas thought up on them.

In regards to the the grammer and punctuation I do proof read my stories and I think I got the first pretty good. As always im sure I overlooked something.

Thanks for the awesome tips and advice nice to hear from someone going through the same stuff

Appriciate the help

Suggested reading: Inflate123's Advice for Writers.

Regarding file formats: The stories are all submitted via web form. File format doesn't matter much, since you'll probably just copy and paste it. MS Word is an exception. If you're copying your story from MS Word, use the Paste from Word button in the story submission form. It's the second to last button in the text editor window.

Hello to the main man himself

Thanks for the suggested reading I appreciate the direction.

As regards to the uploading I recently uploaded from my first story which was pasted from word but was unaware of the "paste from word" button I assume I need to upload again?

Thanks for the help

They're not set in stone, but you'd do well to keep them in mind.

Just a note to everyone 'Emma's Detention' has been posted and I hope you dont mind giving some feedback on it if youre not busy of course!

Thankyou in advance

Aye. Feedback.

I welcome you to correct me - it's a private opinion and it might annoy a lot of people ^_^

Alec Deluxe once said his stories are light on world and heavy on inflation, and Inflate123 stories are heavy on world and light on inflation. Let's take it as two schools.

In one there's Alec, Dizzy, Owen, of recent stars - Pump1131. Their stories are pure examples of sexual fetish stories, highly effective at it. After reading their stories you don't understand what's going on - and that's not needed. They do what they do perfectly and that's how they should be enjoyed and valued.

In another there's Dan, Luther, ATG, of recent stars - LimitBreaker/Burster. Their stories are also sexual fetish stories, and can be highly effective at it. The difference is that they give you enough information to imagine the world and invent your own stories in it. Some of them are also a solid prose, enjoyable by general public.

Emma's detention is from the first school, and as such - it's a great story. I'd give an A or B. ^_^ Well done, keep it up ^_^
