How would you fight with inflation

I'm writing a story that has been rolling around in my head, and I want the people that lose fights to become inflated. That said, how you prefer the fight to go?

1. Every hit makes you a bit bigger. The fight ends when you can't get any bigger, can't move, or pop.

2. when you lose the will to fight, you inflate to your max size where your opponet can pop you if they want.

3. Something else. I would love to hear feedback and ideas~

As a martial artist, i love this idea! I like the first idea but would only probably work for striking styles like karate or tae kwon do. Grappling styles like jiu jitsu or judo would need something like the second option as you're practically in full contact with your opponent at all times.

Im looking forward to this and if i can help in any way, please ask!

For the first option, maybe it could be a scored match with fighters having swallowed remote controlled gas release tablets. Letting your opponent score points or being dominated will get you blown up, and you'll eventually explode if you don't get out of it.

Obviously, submission = BOOM

Thats is a fantastic idea.  Really like that one.

Actually, yes, Daemon.

I'm ready for asking questions now. Many of them ^_^ Please let me know of your preferred time and place.

Thank you!

Lopni

From as little/as much i've seen about your world - option 1 is most natural with the rest of your rules.

What if you start writing both - you might notice which one is more hot, more dramatic, and you might well see that you don't like either - so option 3 will naturally appear?

edit: Keraha, Daemon is right - it might become an awesome thing! Please go forward with it.

Actually this world is an entirely new one. I tried writting the other one, but as it went on it just got more and more depressing...

So to remedy that I decided to make a more colourful world, this one is based more around the ideas of video game logic.

Torterra Inflation

Perhaps something like the damage system in Super Smash Bros.? The more hits that whoever is fighting takes, the more tired they get, and their opponent can deliver a powerful strike that will make them inflate... The more exhausted the victim is will determine how much they inflate, analogous to how much damage taken determines how far the foe flies in Smash.

I have to admit, I like that idea. Simple, yet effect, somewhat close to what I was thinking damage would be like.

pump1131

Since it's sort of a video game laws of reality type thing, will this apply to force being exerted on the human body in general? Obviously fighting would do it, but so would tons of other things, proportional to the force.

If I smacked you hard on the butt a couple times you would probably only feel really gassy, but if I pushed you off a building you would swell and detonate like a thunderclap on impact with the ground, blowing out windows nearby. Maybe we get in a car crash on the way back from me picking you and a few other friends up from the inflation hospital respawn point, and the smallest person (probably you, sorry) blows and starts a chain reaction.

This would really make crowds, confined spaces, and sports interesting. Roller derby, anyone?

Lopni

Powerful strike will make them inflate
Opponent needs to be tired to receive powerful strike

Great idea!

This sounds like inserting a hose (engaging in inflatics).
It's a speed competition - one tries to plug a hose somewhere (mouth, navel, I don't want to know) - and another one tries to prevent that. Once the hose is inside - the pump senses it and starts pumping automatically.

If it's Hosing - the competition ends here. For something more realistic (until surrender, slip, flyaway or runaway, like in Arena) - your opponent will want to get the hose out (to disengage), and you will want to keep it in. His/her speed and the range of allowed motions is gradually reduced, but he/she can always roll 90 degrees or hop away - and you'll have to carry the pump to the new place so that the hose doesn't go out. If the hose is out - the pump senses it and stops pumping.

Lopni

As I imagine it - fighting and inflation are in different time scale. It's either fighting - or inflation, not both at once.

For example, if some policeman sniffs inflationary gas grenade - he will do the same as if he just had a light firearm injury. Take cover, deflate, then resume the fight/chase. No need to risk being big and clumsy, better call backup or use pistol from the cover.

If someone still HAS TO fight during inflation - it will be very hard to hit or grapple anything even when slightly inflated. Speed is reduced dramatically.

In inflatics fighting is mostly considered a fault - the fighter is in most cases removed from the field. If she actually injures someone - it will be grave fault, and her team will be inflated ("penalty"). They can do motions which resemble fighting styles - but for other purposes. To distract, to place into inferior position or bounce away, to insert a hose, etc. But it's still inflatics only - not fighting.

And field movement is governed by school physics, no need to invent anything:

1. There's walking - which is falling forward from one leg to another. While increasingly big - it will get harder to move one leg past another. While increasingly buoyant - it will get harder to fall. Eventually - quite soon! - walking will become impossible. Inflatee would either stumble and fall on the ground, or she'd make one step for so long that she'd decide to run instead.

2. And there's running - which is jumping forward from one leg to another. While buoyancy will turn running into moon-hopping, it should stay possible even when very inflated, until slipping or flying away. ^_^

Plus there can be some special motions, depending on what you prefer to imagine. For example, a girl gets half-full and still is comfortable with the massive amount of air inside, so she sends a powerful shockwave back into the pump - breaking it. Or falls on the ground, rolls to the pump, grabs it while rolling and throws it into the wall.

Girls who like karate - fight, girls who like inflatics - inflate. Those are different girls. ^_^
(imho)

All thanks to Air Tank Girl and Violet Gambit who actually tried on themselves what inflationary judo/yoga/fitness really are.

I have the Expandii Inflation Controller. What it does is it has a multitude of settings, like full body, hourglass, hands, feet, lips, the list goes on. I could use the remote on someone for defense by just zapping an enemy from a distance. If that doesn't work, I can zap a person around me with the helium setting, and just climb on top of the person to reach higher ground.

Lopni

A bit off-topic, it just dawned on me that martial arts will dominate any combat in the imaginary world where people inflate.

Imagine a fighter in an armour. The armour is stiff, so he won't inflate. If inflated, he will immediately receive internal injuries as in real world. Armour made him even more vulnerable.

It might be interesting to speculate what fighting would look like in a world where armour and weapons for piercing it aren't that useful.

Playing Captain Obvious - it's much safer to get big, then get small and return to the chase unharmed. Also, inflation might be used to stop fighting. Martial arts will rule in any combat meaning - it's a much safer place. ^_^

Marvel comics come to mind - a lot of fighting, and almost nobody dies.

Delacroix

I would rather see it as each combatant wearing suits with hit-buttons/plates, when said buttons/plates are hit, it will cause the person wearing the suit swell up (either on the location of the button, like punching said person on the butt would make the butt swell, or just swell up everywhere evenly.)

Anyhow, I like the idea, could make for an interesting story. To the victor goes the pops!

Lopni

haha see, VioletGambit? Another voice for option 1! ^_^

Let me speculate a bit. I'll take my world and average inflatee, for another world/another character it will be the same process with different numbers.

How many hits are fun enough to get full?

Take 100 - and each hit will lead to inflation for 3 seconds, then 3 seconds of deflation. Basically, no inflation, only fighting.

Take 10 - 10% of capacity per hit, meaning inflation for 30 seconds and deflation for 30 seconds. That already gives inflation a place in the competition.

Let's take 10.

First hit will stuff the fighter. That's "real life inflation". It's rather uncomfortable to move like that.

Second hit starts inflation - or inflicts deadly internal injury if he/she doesn't inflate (said armour). Let's assume he/she inflates. ^_^ Then all that stuffing redistributes more naturally, the bulges disappear, shapes return to original, only bigger, rounder, softer.

Second hit gives 10 cm (4 inch)-ish to each curve. That will reduce speed of hard styles by 20%, soft styles work the same but require more effort, running speed is the same, walking is a bit harder. It will take 30 seconds to fully deflate.

Third hit gives 15 more cm (another 6 inch). That's 25 cm (9 inch) in total, this bulk will reduce punch/kick speed to 1/3 of original (all mavashi geri will be too slow, boxing hook will be hard to recover from, etc.), will reduce blocks (tan sao, bon sao and the like will cause bouncing, etc.), holds, locks, throws, rolls  speed to 1/2 of original. Walking speed - 1/2. Good news - running and jumping becomes faster and more comfortable. It takes 60 seconds from here to fully deflate.

Well, that means the fight is over - hello, inflation! ^_^

I guess, winning strategy is to close, plant 3 hits and then avoid getting hit for 1.5 minutes while opponent inflates. After that keep close and inflate him/her until mutual satisfaction.

For opponent it's important to either hit you in the first 30 seconds while he/she still can hit anything. Or - keep the distance for 3 minutes to inflate and then fully deflate. If he/she can't do either - you already won. ^_^

There's too many fighting simulators around already. ^_^ imho ^_^ And they're more fun than just one close contact of 3 hits. I can't really imagine how one could hit anything while having 2'-size boobs bouncing around - even if it's air (hello, Rangiku! ^_^ )

Maybe, it's better to think in terms of inflating each other and competing toward a certain goal?

Adding a team would also put tactics and teamwork on the first place.

Lopni

"all mavashi geri will be too slow"...
"the fight is over - hello inflation"...
"how one could hit anything with 2' boobs bouncing around"...
bla-bla-bla

2 months later I draw inflated sports competition - and inflated gymnastics. ^_^

Never say never I guess ^_^

Here is my thing:

Mortal Kombat/Smash Bros.

It would work like this:Percents and finishing cutscenes(Such as Smash Bros GAME! and MK's [Insert Name Here]-ality.) Nobody would explode. Each punch delivers a inflation boost, depending how hard the hit was.

1v1s: Whoever loses all their stock first, loses, and gets inflated to a spherical orb.

Free for alls: The first 3 people would be inflated as soon as their stock runs out,but only in the winning characters victory screen,to a giant spherical orb

Teams: The 2 people who lose get inflated in the victory screen.

How to perform:The winning team would have to do a combo of things to inflate the losers. Such as jumping on them, doing their special move, and giving a full body inflation.

Interesting,is it not?

I was sebt here via link, so after reading a lot of this, I figure il leave this here:

http://fav.me/d9vr18w

It's a heavily modified mortal kombat game and I missed it further to include a lot more inflation. Special moves and fatalities as well as mid match fatalities if your not careful, are included.

this is a mortal kombat "mugen" game, but all the set up is done already, you'll start with mortal kombat, not the base mugen.

add my updates and you'll get more inflations, and my updates characters and OCs.

note that it is a "work in progress" and I'm still new to it all so it's slow going-but you'll get all the updates as I go if you at least check up on my deviantart.

You can follow me on deviantart as "darkburster1"

the details are in the description (how to get the game and put in all my updates)

its mortal kombat with a lot if inflation/popping

so its a fighting game with inflation as i read bein discussed earlier.

take it or leave it, just be sure you contact me at deviantart if you have questions. Otherwise I don't know when il log in again and see messeges here.

Hope you guys enjoy if anyone even sees this!

Misery loves company.

Variant of American Gladiators game 'Assault' where they run the obstacle course: Every hit on the contestant causes inflation.

The idea that when you lose a hit/life point you inflate a little more is a cool idea. It will inhibit your movements a little more each time and change the game dynamincs with each it.

If you could transfer your pressure to your opponent during the fight to regain your health, would be cool.

Grumper

Something like laser tag or paintball could work too, where each hit will puff you up just a little, but in a few minutes. So, say you got hit a lot, you'll know you're going to swell up huge shortly, so you'd better go crazy trying to hit as many of your opponents as possible before it starts!

Actually that's a pretty neat idea.

I had considered something like poisons, but I could never figure out how that would work for forcing it on someone.

The paintball solution seems to be much easier~ And far more exciting and intense~

Lopni

...as they say in a club "Bum Balls", the balls need to be tightly pumped up so that your palm sinks into them only by index finger depth.

If your palm sinks deeper then that ball is too soft. It won't bounce and you won't be able to knock people off

If your palm doesn't sinks to required depth then that ball is too pumped up. It might slip on impact

How is it connected to inflation? Well disregard a real world club "Bum Balls", imagine Bum Balls literally ^_^
