In history, wealthy women typically flaunted their wealth by showing that they didn't need to work- corsets, foot binding, and so on, as well as later by taking up space with huge dresses and skirts. Imagine a parallel universe where body inflation is possible- here, inflation is a status symbol for ladies. Noblewomen are inflated into spheres- they have servants to take care of their needs and roll them around. Mostly the idea is an excuse to have inflated ladies in fancy dresses and hairdos, but it does make a sort of sense.

In my view it's fun to be inflated to capacity - may be for court entertainments, nobility audiences, dance parties (those are called a "BALL" for a reason, right?)
Unless we're talking about modern times, aristocrats had enormous list of duties, a huge responsibility and worked really hard under pressure of being... replaced. In Europe several centuries ago they basically ran the countries. Men and women had different roles, sure - but both were equally busy. So much to do, and very little time to be a sphere. Spending few hours like that is fine though
(I guess).
One of my old time fantasies was a capacity test. As years go by, one lady will train huge resilience (can hold higher pressure), another one - huge size (can hold higher volume), or starts inflating later, or inflates slower, or deflates constantly etc. etc. etc. - either way her capacity is higher. In a balanced world characters of the same level will have more or less the same capacity.
And in some cruel club, or sect, or clan they might have a face check on entry: take a pill, then enter - in pieces if you're a newbie or alive and huge if you're a pro.

I know it's not totally realistic, I just like the idea of being inflated to helplessness and then pampered. Maybe in some fantasy kingdom where inflation is possible noblewomen only have to be big and round.

This is an idea I've toyed with myself a couple of times - once for a fantasy story that never got past the preliminary concept, and then later for a sci-fi story that likewise got trapped in development hell. In both cases, the inflation never reached the point of the subjects becoming spherical; rather, the wealthy individuals would inflate a specific part of their body (belly, breasts, butt, or all three, depending on what was 'in style' at the time).
I'm honestly surprised the concept hasn't seen more use within the community, given how many strange fashion trends have surfaced among the upper class throughout history as a way of flaunting their wealth and privilege, and generally showing off how pampered they are. XD

I have an interesting take on the idea. What if instead of inflation being a status symbol it was a trend. Like the more inflated you were the more "cool" you were or perhaps inflation was the standard for beauty. And even that it had a snowball effect and women got more and more obsessed with being bigger then there peers. I like that idea more.
That is a fantastic idea!!!! It maeks sense given a bit of real history too!
In such a case I imaginethat bigger is "better." As while anyone can inflate the bigger you are the wealthier you are. And so higher personal status!
