Sounds like a neat idea to me! Would there be popping at all, and would it be run in the forums or via something like Roll20?
Tabletop Style Group RPG
There have been a couple topics in the past discussing inflation in tabletop games that I thought sounded cool. I'm thinking about trying to run one on these forums with a really stripped down version of Dungeons and Dragons, would there be any interest in that?
It would probably be pretty lighthearted, simple, and silly. I've got some ideas if anybody's possibly up for it or wants to talk about the immense amounts of nerditude involved in writing a roleplaying game variant about a sexual fetish.
It would be run in the forums.
As far as popping goes, it will almost definitely include popping, unless all of the players are totally against it.
I plan to tailor most things (popping, being inflated vs inflating others, prefered partners, other fetishes, sexual explicitness, etc) to individual taste to some degree. It probably won't be some absolute thing where someone doesn't like popping so they just can't ever pop, but if an evil sorceress is sitting there with a powerful inflation spell ready to rock and in stumble Popperchick321 and this person, maybe the sorceress will just have a weird feeling about who she should blow up. Most things will be somewhat fluid, but sexual explicitness will probably be much more cut and dry.
Likewise, if one of the players has some really elaborate and specific fantasy involving a gym locker room or something like that, maybe this dungeon has a 24 hour dungeon fitness center. Whatever.
For ease of play (so people aren't constantly having to make new characters), death and popping will probably not be permanent (obviously, this is negotiable depending on group preferences). There will probably be some spell to revive dead characters (it won't work on exploded ones), and unrevived dead/popped characters will probably just wake up back in town with a wicked hangover and missing a gigantic chunk of experience points or something like that.
Thoughts?
Okay, this is my first post in RP section ever (I normally don't RP), but seeing you coming around with such an idea - I definitely support this.
Many things I like about this - a) you as a DM, b) AD&D, c) sensible rules, d) this idea rocks!
So I'll give it a go as a player - it has players, right?
For character generation - which age/culture/world/social standing are the characters?
I would not mind collaborating on the first IRPG System :P
I've never tried D&D, haven't really wanted to. That being said as long as this is non-sexual, I'd be down to give it a go.
Id do it if theure blueberries involved
I would be down for this sounds like fun
Intrigued.
Hey, Pump1131, what edition of Dungeons & Dragons would you be operating?
I'm currently running a 3.5 edition game on Roll20 which features inflationary mechanics. If you ever need a collaborator for errata, I'd be happy to lend a hand, or air tank.
I was thinking a very, very, very simplified version of 3.5, actually! But it would be so stripped down that in a way I guess it might resemble really ancient D&D. Like, probably no individually tracked skills or fiddly stuff, unless people absolutely love all that.
I would love to hear how this has gone for you! How have you been handling inflation mechanically? Any general tips?
Sorry I didn't see your message sooner, Pump! I've been away.
My crew and I came up with a few rules on how to use inflation in D&D 3.5. It isn't as simple as earlier editions had their rules, but these have worked for us. I used to have a character's maximum inflation size in increments of five feet, but we altered that.
I'll send you a note with details, and a link to a document so you can see it for yourself!
Is this still looking at going ahead? As a DnD and general tabletop roleplay nerd, im really interested!
Yes! I'll type up and post what I have in mind mechanics-wise soon.
Looking forward to seeing what comes out of this.
i'm interested :)
Pump to this thread ^_^
I hope you visit here, buddy. We're all busy people. How bad could it be? Maybe if you just jump - there will be enough breaks between posts for everything?
Good luck out there over the ocean and please return! ^_^
Sounds like great fun! :D
Is this still active or has it died?
Makes me wonder where are all these people ^_^
Oh they're around... I for one have been doing a little 5e expansion D&D on the regular, albiet in a one on one fashion via Skype or Discord. (Used to use Yim but it sucks now sooo) That way it comes up a wee bit like an interactive story or the like, but if enough people could be rangled together at the same time, perhaps a group?
Anyone interested at giving it a whirl can find me at;
Skype: garyhowwe
Discord: Wacko T.#4850
Oh, and do put it in the add message that you were brought from here, I wanna avoid bots and the like ^.^"
Is anyone around here familiar with the Cypher System? Used for games like Numenera. http://cypher-system.com/what-is-the-cypher-system/
What interesting about it is how open it is. Focuses more on RP and freedom rather than strict regulations. And to top it all of it's easy to learn if you have someone help you or use a cheat sheet such as this http://thealexandrian.net/creations/numenera/numenera-cheat-sheet-draft1.pdf
Now I bring this up to say that I've been mulling around an idea. Making a Discord Server for RP moderated around this system editted to be more inflation friendly. People come in, make a character with some help, and RP as normal using the Cypher system. Players that display skills and talent with the system get ranked up using Roles to keep track of thier rank, and those that don't want to play, but want to DM could have a section as well.
There are admittedly a few kinks in this idea, (namely inflation Har har). But if enough show interest, I might just set it up anyway and see how it goes
I tried to write rules to something like this long ago. Never got far with it.
