By meta, I mean that this isn't about inflation exactly, it's about fetish.
I just read this book, "Sex with Shakespeare" which is about a woman who has a spanking fetish and how she deals with it in herself and with others and the world around her. I found it utterly fascinating and read it in two sittings (and I'm not a big reader).
No, I'm not into spanking, but the parallels I found to be very similar to how a fetish works in the mind. The difference between "kink" and "fetish". Triggers. Relationships. Headspace.
This silly fetish is a defining characteristic of my life. I refer to it as "the great mystery of my life" (as opposed to "the great tragedy of my life" which is something else entirely). I have never, ever understood it. being the mathey-sciency person I am, I've always yearned to do so. After reading this book...I still do not :)...but I feel as if I've seen some more clues.
If anyone has already read it, I'd love to hear your take on it in relation to your fetish.
Your mileage may vary.
Toodles
A little meta. "Sex With Shakespeare"
I'll put it on my radar.
...and the day you'll figure it up completely while running late through the park trails - it will be so crystal clear that you'll wake up Lynn and will bolt to the skies!
Hmm... After reading a short description of the book on Amazon, I can say that it doesn't sound like something I would be too terribly interested in reading. However, I am more perplexed as to why you find your fetish to be such a "great mystery". I can clearly remember how I developed this fetish, what initially attracted me to it, why I find it attractive now, and how it would fit into a relationship. Perhaps Ive had too much free time to sit reading studies about fetishes and analyzing myself relative to the time I discovered that I had a fetish or let alone knew what a fetish was (going on roughly 17 years now Id say) , but I certainly don't consider that defining characteristic of my life that much of a mystery.
Awesome for you :) I haven't spent a great deal of time reading about fetishes (Or much else for that matter). I'm in for about 17 years now as well. I haven't a clue why I find it attractive...in fact...essential.
From what I understand, that is the difference between a kink and a fetish, a kink being something of a preference that varies on levels of "weirdness" whereas a fetish is something essential.
Sure I understand that. That still doesn't actually explain the appeal though.
Well, that's kind of relative to the person, isnt it? I know why I like inflation: the lack of control, pressure, size, awkwardness in mobility or lack thereof, the process of watching somebody go from relatively normal to completely gigantic and round, and generally what happens that happens to clothes when you wear them while inflating. I could elaborate more on each of those points and why they create the appeal that they do, but I'm just saying, when you go stuffing your superhero outfits, you don't just do it for the hell of it, there's got to be some reason you find it appealing.
Oh without a doubt there is appeal. A very great appeal! :)
In my mind the pressure, size, awkwardness, embarassment, lack of control and mobility and what happens to the clothing are "what" I like about inflation. What I'm in pursuit of is why those things appeal to me. Which I don't get at all. Hence, mystery.
Well, I'm no pyschologist, but if I had to take a guess that on things such as pressure, awkwardness, embarassment, lack of control, size, mobility, it's pretty much you wanting to experience things that you are not. I have suspicions that you are probably trim in a physical sense, posses a strong personality, professional, and tend to prefer to have as much control over a situation as you can. If I am correct in these assumptions, then I would say the appeal is getting what you normally can't have or wouldn't give up under normal circumstances, getting out of your own skin for a second and enjoying things on the other side of the fence. Maybe I'm oversimplfying this point, but it seems to be working out pretty well for video game developers, putting out fantasy scenarios that people escape into to do things that they normally would never do. This may also explain why you gravitated towards the idea of adopting the persona of an inflatable superheroine, being put into situations that allow for a combination of both your actual being and your alter ego as it were to meet and mingle with one another. As per the facet of pressure, outside of the physical realm, some people just function better while under it. In the realm of inflation though, it's kind of like a physical sensory registry, a catalyst of sorts, of all the other things happening. The more pressure you feel, the less control you have, the more awkward your movements and tigher your clothes become, and the bigger you would get. Embarressment is just the culmination of these apsects, the end result of the control loss.
I'd also wager that another appeal that probably a lot of people overlook who have inflation fetishes is simply the conveinience of the fantasy, the ability to go back and forth between from being normal to a balloon by inflating and deflating, because realistically speaking, who wants to be inflated all the time? Yeah, sounds like the life at a glance, but unless you're fabulously wealthy and have someone to take care of you or have a job that requires little to no interaction with the public and let's you work from the home, life would be a royal pain in the ass at that point.
Like I said, shots in the dark here, but hopefully some of the magnesium off the tracers shed a little light on your mystery :)
Wowzers. You never fucking dissapoint, Sister. Rock on. <3
I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not.
ATG is gonna start an Oprah style book club for inflationists, so everyone pay attention!
(Wait, that would require reading... so... I'm out...)
I haven't read it, but you've piqued my interest. Thanks, ATG.
