Inflation Livestream Question

Hey there, I was hoping someone could give me a bit of advice here. I've been working to try and raise money for new filming equipment to return back to making videos on YouTbe, and things have seemed to hit a slow spot. I was thinking of doing a few live stream inflations to earn a few bucks, but I wanted to know what my best options are to give it a shot.

In my mind I had thought that doing a donation-based entry would be the best way to go (donators get a password to attend). However I could see it backfiring if people chose to publically share the password. The other option was to stream it publically (still password protected, but make the credentials available publically on platforms like here), make it free entry, and have my fingers crossed for donations afterward.

What are your thoughts on a good streaming platform? Would you pay for access, donate, or have no interest?

I would say that free entry and hoping for donations would be the best option.

If people like the content, they'll gladly donate and share possibly leading to more donations.

But with the donate to open, you're asking people to pay for something that they haven't seen, making donations even less likely. Then if people just start sharing the password, you'd have to change it entirely and tell all the donators. ANd that's with the knowledge that the one that gave out the password, is still there.

Yeah, the password sharing thing is what I'm afraid of. I was hoping to find a service that would allow me to invite users with accounts in to stream to take care of that issue, but I don't think such a thing exists (except for Skype, and I think a video call with more than one person is a paid option).

I'd be open to going the free route, but I've had a lot of trouble getting any form of donations at all in the past. I'd hate to put the work in and come up empty in the end. I guess it's just the risk I have to take.

from my recent experience - it's like how Terry Prachett has written about banks. If you ask bank's money you have to show that you don't need bank's money.

in my case - if I wanted to ask money to hire an artist, I had to show I don't need an artist. Beautifully made pictures, gorgeous looking project and professional studio product only an artist is able to produce could win the funding to hire an artist. However, if I would be able to make such pictures, why would I need to hire an artist? I explained in detail why investing isn't an option for me, and attached full credentials, every organization in those owns a decent portfolio of mine. What can I say - I'm terrible at selling anything and I know that. I just accepted failure (although having anything incomplete is a big blow to personal pride) because failure to make my game happen is also an option for me - an option of spending more time with family.

in your case - if you want to ask money to buy a camera, you need to show you already have a camera. Invest your own money, and produce paid offline videos or top-up Skype account, or pay for other online conference services. If - like me - you can't invest, just use webcam or phone for starters, and earn towards your goal. Or - accept that timing was wrong and just put this idea on hold ^_^

Speaking of putting on hold - apologies for repeated advice, but you do need a solution for whatever drove you away previous time before you resume. If it's harrassment - just have a plan and stick to it, you can even prepare messages you'll send in that case and contacts you'll report to in case it happens. If it's burnout - make a very relaxed schedule, and stick to it. Otherwise this time will end much worse than previous - it's always like that with failures, in any area of life. For your sake, you need it solved before you return big time, enlightened, sexy and inspired ^_^

That's currently what I'm doing, to an extent. I am asking for money for a camera, but I'm showing initiative by using a webcam to try and produce content. Money's just really tight for me right now to be able to invest any further with my own money, so I have to reach out further through other sources, such as current viewership.
