What I mean by this is when a scene is built up in a way that a character is going to be inflated...but aren't.
Painful subject, but it's fun to imagine what could have been at the same time.
I can't think of much, but I'm choosing 'really gross anatomy' from the hotel Transylvania cartoon series. Basically, Mavis' friend Wendy the blob is inflated with a helium tank by a mediocre doctor to restore her goo. Good premise, ugly character. Near the end of the episode, the same doctor is going to do surgery on Mavis herself. He brings out the helium tank again. Oh snap! Mavis is cute and it should work like the last scene in some fashion, right?
Nope, he uses it to inflate a growth off her finger that she reveals under the blanket on her thumb. Bleh...
I know there are some more out there!
How about this one: Humorous atmosphere, hose in mouth, valve is turned on, puffy cheeks... hose pops out.
Well, anyways it explains why we use a mask for breathing oxygen instead of just putting the hose inside our mouth. So inflation wasn't supposed to happen anyway. But given the tone of the narrator's voice, and seeing hose in mouth just triggered my expectations:
