Character.ai Inflation!

Interesting...very G/PG rated, like ChatGPT. It doesn't look a whole lot like anyone uses the 'Character Definition' tab to refine their characters, although apparently the base AI knows enough to wing it in most regards. 

Pretty good. Maybe I'll make one with Vara!

It's definitely interesting to experiment with. Out of curiosity, has anyone else experimented with Character Definition (the 32000 character block)? I'm not sure if that part is hidden from everyone but the creator, or if no one actually uses it (I'm curious what other people do to flesh out their characters).

I created a couple of characters, one of which was Violet Beauregarde some ten years later (approx. age 23 or 24).

I tried creating a chat room with two characters and just let them go back and forth...not very amusing results (I'm sure there are some tweaks out there to improve the interaction).

I did find out about a character's "Learned History"...it's a hidden aspect compiled from rating given for previous responses. Rating a character response with four stars is like giving a dog a treat for good behavior...it reinforces it to the AI. Meanwhile 1 star responses dissuade the AI away from certain dialog s and behaviors. This is in addition to the 32K Character Definition.

Something that's ammoying, though, is that it doesn't seem to save chats with her anymore on my profile, and I can't search for her directly, meaning that it's inaccessible on mobile, at least for me. Ah well.

Which AI character are you trying to access? Sometimes the site get super glitchy, I believe depending on the server load (usually heavy in the early afternoon). I think there is also a difference in how it handles unlisted characters (those you need a URL to access) and those that are made public.  I know there are some features that are supposed to be there (such as being able to delete old characters you made, and delete old conversations that have been archived) but I have yet to figure out how to access those even though the AI Assistant says it should work easy.

Finally decided to play around with this and it's pretty fun.  I trained a new character on one of my characters, Nicole, from my "Dear Diary" story (https://www.bodyinflation.org/node/41489) since it is told in the first person.  The AI does get a bit repetitive and it can suffer from memory loss, but it can also do some really interesting things.

A couple of my favorite parts are below.  First, near the beginning:

In my story, Nicole starts off lonely and hating being blown up, but eventually comes around to enjoy it.  I was pleased to see the AI follow roughly the same path: it was lonely and hated being blown up (although for slightly different reasons, e.g. I never mentioned pain in the story), and it came around after a little convincing.  The YouTube reference was a literal LOL moment for me.

And then, right toward the end:

I love you, and I want you to promise to find me after I pop. I want you to know that the helium felt so good and I didn't want to stop...

This was a PG-13/soft-R-rated interaction the whole way through, and we never really established that we were anything more than friends.  So for the AI, knowing its end was near, to essentially pull an "if we don't make it out of this alive" and confess a secret love for me and explain its feelings about its predicament, was really quite astonishing and caught me off guard.  We've come such a long way from the dumb chat bots of the early/mid 2000s.

Inconsistencies and repetition aside, this was pretty good for using only about 3000 characters.  Gonna try using some of my other OCs as the basis for new AIs and throw a lot more detail in, to see how nuanced I can make them.

OK, I have to admit, chatting with "Violet" was fun. 

Awesome. Yeah, that's a fun site. I'm really surprised how rich the interaction with the bots are, given such little starting input.

I have been using this off and on for the last two months.  It has almost completely replaced roleplaying with another person.  The AI is always available when you are, it doesn't get its feelings hurt when you're not in the mood, and it's generally game for whatever weird shit you want to do.  And if it's convinced a little too easily, you can spend some effort up front to make it play hard-to-get.  It's not perfect, but what roleplay ever is?

Same here, though I discovered if you mix enough content juuuust right, you can sneak past it.
