Tom of T.H.U.M.B.

A stupid question for videophiles and/or really old folks.

Is anyone old enough to remember the cartoon series "Tom of T.H.U.M.B." from 1966?

For years I've been trying to track down an inflation scene, which had a huge impact on me and is one of my earliest memories of anything inflation related. It involved a secret agent type fellow (who's identitiy has become lost to me in the depths of time), and his side kick, shooting some pellets into the mouths of two villainous scuba divers, inflating them to enormous size. Using a jet-pack attached to his back, the hero then drags the floating rubber clad divers off to prison by their long mustaches. Tom of T.H.U.M.B. originally ran in 1966 as part of the animated King Kong series produced at that same time.

I once thought that the hero in question was "The Inspector" from the Pink Panther show...but I'm positive now that isn't the case. Then I saw pics of this Tom of T.H.U.M.B. cat online and thought he might be the one. He has the same type garb as The Inspector, a sidekick and a boss that's pissed at him...essential elements I can remember. Another possible cartoon hero, that might be the one, was called Q.T. Hush.

A shot in the dark I know (along the lines of trying to track down the anime with the sorceress and the salamander man)...but what the hell! :?

Wow. I'm usually good with the older shows and whatnot, but I'm lost on this one. Someone somewhere owns the rights to this, of course--the question is, who, and would they ever reissue it?

I will hit my TV reference books and see what I can come up with. Was this Saturday morning fare?

Hey guys... Happy New Year!

WOW, I hadn't thought of that show in ages. "Tom of T.H.U.M.B." was kind of like Inspector Gadget - if I remember correctly
and did kind of remind you of
"The Inspector."

Both King Kong & "Tom..." were animated by the fine folks at Rakin/Bass

(Geez, Remember "Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer", "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" & those Various X-mas specials?
They also did the ultra corny "Jackson 5ive" & "Osmond Brothers" cartoons.
**Yeah... I'm really showing my age**

About "Tom of T.H.U.M.B."
From toonarific.com

This was a segment on the "King Kong Show". Tom is a private eye for an organization called T.H.U.M.B. (The Tiny Human Underground Military Bureau). His partner is Swinging Jack, and together they fight the evil members of M.A.D. (Maladjusted, Antisocial, and Darn Mean).
The duo would report to Chief Homer J. Chief.
They became tiny from a shrink ray that accidentally went off while they were standing in front of it.

Hmmmm "What Goes Up... " sound promising as the show's possible title.

After a bit of further reseach I discovered that the "King Kong" Episodes that included "Tom of T.H.U.M.B." are on DVD (2 volumes) Hopefully the scuba-balloony episode is included somewhere.

Just checked based on Duckman's info and Netflix rents these discs as well.

Netflix suggested I might also like Willy Wonka. :)

And if "What Goes Up... " isn't the title, perhaps it's "Blow Tom Blow," "Drop That Ocean, Feller," or "The Scooby"?

I appreciate the responses. Lots of good links there. Arigato!

A couple months ago I missed a "privately produced" DVD with every episode of Tom of T.H.U.M.B. on it, and have been kicking myself ever since, although it went for quite a high ending bid. I see the King Kong DVDs on ebay quite often and they seem to be budget priced. With all the different episodes that were produced of the show, however, what would the chances be of that particular episodes making it on them.

Thanks again! :)
