Another one.....

Okay, since so many obscure TV/Movie ID requests have gone up and been answered lately, I thought I'd post one that probably had the most influence on me. Now, this is going waaaaaaaay back (and I was reaallllly young), but I remember watching on TV what must have been a rip-off of the original Wonka movie (I'm pretty sure it wasn't the actual WW movie because I remember this part of the plot very vividly). Here is what I remember:

At some point in the plot a young lady falls into a "bubble machine" (I seem to remember it looking like a large flower) and inflates like a balloon. As she is on the ground whining about how she "can't go to the prom" in her condition (I remember this specifically), little Oompa-Loompa-like creatures sing and dance around her and she floats up into the sky like a helium balloon (I'm pretty sure this is where my fetish began).

Now, it is possible that, being so young, I confused the different scenes from WW and combined them into one, but I'm almost certain that this was something different - it was kind of like a "Sid and Marty Croft" type show, if I remember correctly. It is likely that it was a Saturday morning show - this is from a time before cable and VCR's, if that date's it for you.

Any ideas?

I'm not sure what show this is, but that scene sounded really awesome... Do you remember anything about the rest of the show? Maybe we can identify it if you tell us more.

Nope - that's about all I remember. It may not have been a "flower" - more like a large, inverted cone that she inflated out of. I'm sure it wasn't animated, but was live action. The imagery was powerful enough to etch it into my mind, that's for sure.

Somedude

Hmmm. My google-fu is apparently weak, as searches turn up nothing related to this...

Are there any other details you remember? Be specific, it could help...

That's about it. The more I recall it, though, it seems she emerges out of what looks like the bell of a large tuba. There is some other character who is talking to her or interacting with her the whole time, but I can't recall anything about it. When the little people around her start to dance and sing in a circle around her, that's when she floats up into the sky.

Hm. I'm afraid that I have nothing... I hope someone else helps out with this, too. I don't want to leave this mystery unsolved... especially now that I've become involved.

The two Sid & Marty Krofft shows that were the trippiest and most often forgotten are Lidsville and The Bugaloos. I wonder if it was either of those.

For that matter, do any of these short descriptions in the first reader review sound familiar?

Fukureruba

You know, that sounds vaguely familiar to me too!

It's so infuriating when I can't remember something like that. Stupid brain!

Another oldie that I DID track down, that I remembered from my punk-hood, was the alligators from the Popeye cartoon "Alona on the Sarong Sea"...the ones that get shoved inside each other until they explode. But even that didn't end the way I remembered it (I remember a baby alligator looking for it's mother crawling into the overstuffed package of gator flesh, causing an explosion ala Mister Creosote from "Life of Brian"...Ted Turner may have edited that out as being too violent in the new colorized version) making me almost believe that there is another cartoon out there with a similar scenario in it. Point being, that with a lot of persistence and some luck you can eventually find about anything.

Good luck on the search.

I was once told Olive once inflates in an episode of Popeye. Never seen it.

Hmm..Obviously this a show from way before My days as a youth. But it does indeed sound very interesting. I'll look into it myself and if I find any new details then I'll report them back here.

Lol, this is a great way to start off a new year by looking for another long lost "holy grail" of the inflation community lol.

Some things that might help are: was this show like cartoon animated? or was it live action or live action with people in giant puppet costumes or something?

If possible, do you remember what the girl looked like? like, what was she wearing? And do you remember if she blew up completely round like Violet did, or was it more of a like "bigger, bloatyier look"?

Who knows, if I or anyone else here can find the name of the show, then maybe possibly they released it on DVD by now..

-Pretty sure it was live action
-Round, balloon-like inflation
-Wearing a blouse & pants (I think)

Again, it's possible that I had a jumbled perception of several different shows/movies, but I definitely remember the dialog about "the prom" - or at least something similar ("can't go out looking like this" was definitely part of it) - that's why it may have been a WW rip-off. This would have only been a year or less after the movie came out and they usually would wait 2-3 years back then to show major motion pictures on network TV.

It's encouraging that it has seemed to stir a memory in Fukureruba. This may have been a local TV production, but it was quite an involved one if it was.

I can't remember for sure whether they actually showed the inflation, but I seem to remember her at least falling into the cone/tuba/flower and emerging out the top inflated with bubbles/balloons all around. Now that I think of it, she may actually have never left the cone/tuba/flower and just floated up from there when the little people start dancing around her and reciting some sort of song/spell she floats up into the sky (again either it was WW or a rip-off).

Don't go knocking yourselves out - it may have never existed and may be from me confusing different things at a young age, but as you can see, it's had a very lasting impression. Kind of my Grand Unified Theory of Inflation and the reason behind my post a few months back about The Great Inflation Conspiracy.

Hmm...very interesting details.

Its a shame that you never saw the episode as a rerun or whatever ever again after that. I'll try my best to keep a lookout for it, but still, I just think that the odds of anyone here finding it arent too good unfortuantly =/

I highly doubt that it was a local show, as that scene just sounds all "expensive" for it to be done as a local program, but hey who really knows for sure.

I just wish we had a name for the show...cuz then I might be able to track it down..

Just a quick question, do you remember seeing this girl in other differant episodes of the same show?

Unfortunately, no - much too long ago and I can't even remember what she looked like.
