inflatable dresses in 1820s?

I found this strange pic while searching: inflating sleeves

Looks like inflatable clothes have been around for a while, I wonder if there's any other strange fashions in the past involving inflatable clothes.

I've come across various inflatable sauna pants ('air jeans', 'wonder sauna hot pants', and probably more) of past decades. I've seen stuff (couple drawings and one picture i think) for a women's inflatable bathing suits circa 1900. From what I remember, it was more fore assisting the wearer to float and was supposed to be no very apparent. I've also wondered if there are mainstream (not one-of inflatable art clothing pieces) inflatable clothing pieces.

I suppose you could also consider 'inflatable survival suits' over the decades (possibly even earlier than 1940's) past as a strange fashion, considering their purpose is practicality not fetish.

Some of the earlier clothing/inflation related items I have heard of include a brief run of art involving 'exaggerated feminine figures' in the newsprint of the time after the Montgolfier brothers began mucking about with hot air balloons in the late 1700s. The political cartoons apparently thought the concept both nicely summed up fashion sense as well as showed which famous people of the day were letting their egos get a bit swollen. Yes, I've looked for images of such. No, I've had no success at finding any. In the interests of public research, dont'cha know.

In the dressmaking world there have been various experiments as far back as the Victorian times to make use of air filled bladders for dress padding. Can't get much lighter than that for suit construction, and considering the crazy size and weight of some styles, every ounce saved is worth it. This led to enough blow outs, however, that it occasionally became a bit of a gossip item to discuss who'd burst a boob or backside at the previous evening's activities. Ah, the benefits of modern technology!

Nice!

I recall an old post on here saying a cartoonist made fun of this back then by having a really exaggerated clothing inflation with a bike pump (is that the kind of political stuff you were mentioning Sievert?)

...I'd love to find it but this is great in it's own right. :)
