Fishing for some interest, and might be recruiting alpha testers by the Holidays!!

The short version: this is a massively multiplayer online role playing game (think world of warcraft on an indie budget) where characters start as human, with the quest of ridding the island of the transformed women. There are five factions, one for each fetish: WG, BE, BI, Blueberry and butt growth. If you are overcome by one of the women, your character transforms into one. From there you can go on quests to restore your character, or simply run around transforming others, levelling up into different variations on the theme.

So what would your interest be? See the poll and PM me for alpha testing. :)

I have the combat all worked out. All I need are more models (hard) and some world development (easy).

At the beginning, it would be a free one, but as I develop I might do a subscription fee.

Hmm....sounds like quite an ambitious project. Can I be a GM? :D

fwoomp
fwoomp's picture

That was quick. I just got up to date on the threads here!

I have the beginning tutorial sequence played, and a little combat zone I made works perfectly. I think I'll build up the different factions one at a time. The Blueberry and Inflation fit into the storyline as the most powerful, so unfortunately they might be accessible to the higher level characters, and developed later. Unless you planning on just rushing in and seeing what happens.

The game starts in a raid on an inn in the main town. Theres a couple of guilds and lots of sub-plots of the factions trying to infiltrate the village, rescue quests, etc.. I can't believe how quickly it's coming together - after only a few days' work, I'm confident enough to post this!

At this point (although I know what a GM generally is), I don't even have the role defined on the engine. Probably much further down the line. That last option was pretty tongue-in-cheek, truth be told.

Again, be sure to PM me for alpha testing. Once I shell out even more $$ for servers, along with the motto, "this should be the last expense!" I put down quite a bit already...

If nobody's interested, I suppose I'll just go about playing in my own little world, which is fine too. I remember doing something like this as a kid with a C64 (adventure construction set!), thinking, "is there anybody out there besides myself crazy enough to play this?" It was a full adventure on one glorious 3.5" floppy disk.

Which reminds me of one thing I should have mentioned: YOU NEED A DECENT GRAPHICS CARD. If you've never played a 3D game before, this is a whole other thing...A decent one costs about $80, just so ya know. :)

How much space does this game take on your pc?

fwoomp
fwoomp's picture

It's alpha, meaning new stuff is added every day, literally. The latest compile is at 168 MB with one city and one large zone. I'd be shocked if it ever went over .5 GB, frankly, but no promises.

EDIT: On second thought, minimum system requirements are part of being in the alpha group. You get lifetime subscription, but the trade is having to report all the bugs and incompatibilities. People with questionable configurations are encouraged to apply, since their input is important in determining this. A graphics card with 256MB or more is the bare minimum; I'm sure it won't work on an internal card, meaning if you don't have one, don't bother.

Yes!! Yes Id be interested. Who wouldnt be interested in seeing people inflate? (at least around here)

Anyway, you start as a human and the women on the island transform you into women? What? That doesnt make sense. Can I play as a woman right form the beginning or whats the deal?

I'm keeping it simple since every character class will have different pre-transformation animation sets - with five factions, each with 4 subgroups, that's 20 extra sets per character!

I'll start with the female set and work into the male as I go, I think, but ultimately both options will be available.

No, I would not want to live in a world without dragons, as I would not want to live in a world without magic, for that is a world without mystery, and that is a world without faith.

Have you ever heard of the program Maya Before? It should help you with the character design and some of the animation. How is the level design going to be? what program are you going to use? I just have a lot of questions and I cant wait to see a pre vesion of the finished product.

You can count me in! :) I never would have thought that there would be an MMORPG about inflation.

I'm a huge gaming fan so I hope I'll be able to become a GM.

I'm using blender and milkshape for modelling, but I have to admit, it's a weakness. I'm trying my hand at modding a few designs I bought this week, and I have a few people to email once I give up.

The modelling is the only thing I'm not confident about, but I seem to be picking it all up pretty quickly.

I have a question. If you can compare the graphics in your game to a console what would you compare it to? PS2 graphics? PS1 graphics? Nintendo 64 graphics?

I'm modelling right now. This is probably the biggest hurdle for me, since my programming is solid, but my modding is, well, not.

I originally planned on outsourcing the modelling, but I need to know what needs to be done before I can start hiring and making project demands. I'm doing level design while I'm waiting to sort this out, and will take some tutoring this weekend on it, since I hate grinding through the tutorial books. I have my females, but they're not...well...fixed...yet.

If you have been asking for a release date of the alpha, please note, it was in the beginning of this thread - the holidays, cerca December.

Worth repeating:

Again, I am just gauge-ing interest and collecting addresses for testers. Don't exaggerate my claims, pls.

I have the client AND server working on a local basis, the game physics and combat systems are all worked out, and I have a couple beginner levels.

EDIT: This means I can wander around and fight this unanimated girl with huge boobs. I'm waiting to animate her - it's a rigging issue. She dies if I kill her, and I die I turn into a huge-boobed girl with her weapons and armor. Only problem is that she floats around with her limbs extended the whole time and doesn't move. This makes a screen capture very unimpressive.

I'm waiting on character graphics, hoping that every week will be the last one, but it might not. It seems that every victory has a setback. I rig the model, but it deforms the mesh. I get the mesh right, but it can't be rigged. As soon as I get somebody who knows the 3d software better, I can get some advice on it, crank out the first NPC, and then get back to the level design.

I'll check the forums every week to keep everybody posted, and will eventually move my alpha testers to a yahoo group so I don't hijack this forum. :)

Thanks for your interest everybody! I don't think I'd be so into it if there wasn't an interested community. If there's any promises to make, it's that I won't stop working on it. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

EDIT: I got a 4 hour session with a pro this weekend! If he sorts my stuff out, I'll have that shot by Sunday.

What's your rigging issue? You having trouble learning how to parent a mesh to the rig, or is it something to do with weight painting?

at this point, help only makes things move faster. But if you do meshes, rigs, UV unwrap textures, or 3d animation, that'll work.

What's with the tendency of the old thread getting the most responses? :/

Oof. I was hoping this thread would bury itself.

Instead of writing everybody, let me just say that game servers require dedicated hosting, which means the $10 a month you pay for a web host can go up to $350 a month. For alpha, we're testing it off of my own LAN, which can support 5-10 simultaneous players. At the moment, I have all of them in a group off-site.

Once I release the alpha in December, I'm going to see how those players work. If they don't average 5 online, 10 peak, then I'm going to keep adding players to the alpha as I go. You might want to check back every now and then to see how it's going, but for the time being, I have to close the doors. I'll give this forum priority when considering now alphas, though.

Thanks a lot for your interest! You'll be hearing from me again...

fwoomp, I am part of the sims2 ommunity at mod the sims2 . com and insimenator .com. There are many tutorial for poser, about how to make meshes and masters of the craft of meshing and moding. I have skills in it myself even thought I have tried but there maybe someone to get advice from. I am fair at best at recoloring a outfit from a mesh.

From what i have read over there poser is the best for making meshes but is hard to keep bones alignments correct. they have magnets for some of the body types so that meshers can edit the bodyshapes but I don't know if they can be edited for other programs.

I hope that this information can help you.

fwoomp
fwoomp's picture

Thanks, but poser is decidedly high-poly. The game engine barfs it up.

I AM still working on it, but my studies and full-time job have taken precedence. For a while I just have some modellers working on the project while I plug away with my responsibilities. I expect we'll reach the next level in a month or so.

If not Poser, what works? Do you have to go straight to Maya or 3DS Max to get acceptable poly counts, or is there something in-between in terms of "prosumer" apps?

fwoomp
fwoomp's picture

I modify stock meshes in standard commercial graphics packages (Maya, max, or blender), rig the extra appendages, animate the meshes via keyframes, and then export to blitz. From the engine you apply the textures and character attributes/behavior. My engine devs sold me the stock mesh, so there's no issues there, it goes right in without any problems. From the completed mesh, I've heard Fragmotion is good, but I don't seem to have to issues doing it from the commercial stuff.

The stock Victoria/Michael Poser packages are at least 80K poly counts. Impossible!

I'm paying my graphics guys, but my budget isn't huge. Perhaps you know someone who is interested? PM if so.

For the reduction of meshes, Softimage/XSI Mod Tool does a pretty good job. I've a number of apps here that do a good job of reducing a mesh, but Softimage/XSI is the only free one. The problem would be exporting something XSI Mod Tool 6 can read from Poser...

Yeah, but the engine is particular. I don't think poser rigging would translate to spec.

On the current workflow I can make about a character a day. Finding the day is another story...

One thing in my long journey through the world of 3D modeling is that there is no such things as compatibility between various packages to 100%, and nothing is compatible with Poser either way, not without spending some money, sometimes a good deal of money.

You can read the model mesh for a poser model in any decent 3D modeling application - it's a .OBJ file, broken into segments called "hip", "spine1", "rtwrist", etc. Those, ironically, are your bones. Poser really doesn't uses bones and weight maps, but something older, and far more clunky, requiring far more time than it ought. Where the actual joints are placed appears to be a line drawn though the centers of the top and bottom of each groups bounding box. Where two lines intersect, you have a joint. Far less intuitive than building a mesh, then building the skeleton to fit in the mesh, and then limiting the bones' influences with weight maps...

And, as far as good modeling programs on the cheap, there's always Blender. Takes a little getting used to, but it does the job. Blender could take the obj file, decimate the mesh (reduce it's poly count), and then you could proceed to rig it. Most game models are usually 5K polys, give or take, and the poser models have a lot of details modeled in that for a game would best be left to texturing, anyway...

gHassy

Is thing still even alive at this point?

fwoomp
fwoomp's picture

Sadly, no. I have a dozen spells and weapons and a couple of creatures at this point, with a town and a couple of shops.

Studying and working full-time has made me realize that if I don't hire a 3D designer or sink about 300-400 hours into it, I can't get even the first clan together (which is BE anyway). There's SO much involved on the graphics end, especially with character transitions. Programming is my strong point, so it takes even more time to mess around with the stock models in 3dstudio.

I hope to work on it whenever there's time, but really can't justify an entire month off at this point...
