Blimp Boy

So I got an actress to read and act out some inflation stories and she's quite good, although she's still learning. I want people to give some input. Here's an example of one story she read.

I obviously pay her, so I was thinking of posting a PayPal link for donations. She's not some woman who is acting with a tin can. She actually does have a pretty decent set up. Maybe I'll even accept requests. I'm not quite sure how I should go about this. Should I share a portion of the money with the authors of the stories? Should I just put her files on a "pay what you want" website?

I think this is really nice!! ^^ as for the whole asking the authors part, its always a better idea to note the authors that you want to commission someone doing an audio recording of their stories first. Just letting them know what you want to do for them as well as getting permission prior goes a long way.

Then again, I would be hardpressed to think of someone who wouldnt want a talented person recording a story they wrote. As for paying them, it depends on the author. You wouldnt have to do it for me, but if you did i'd just make a story or drawing you wanted to see or read.

This has come up a few times before, but to my knowledge money has never been a factor in the discussion.

As someone who has spent countless hours writing many stories for the community without asking for a penny, I am conflicted by this in many different ways.

- It would be cool to hear some of my stories narrated by an attractive female voice.

- I've never written stories with the idea that I could someday, somehow make money off of them. I guess getting a royalty of sorts off of recordings would be nice, but ultimately it doesn't really move the needle for me.

- I don't particularly like the idea of someone else making money off of my stories. Sure, finding the right voice actress with the right equipment at the right price isn't easy, but ultimately I did most of the hard work by writing the story itself and we're not exactly looking for Oscar quality (or even Kindle audiobook quality) voice work. The price would have to be right, i.e. modest.

- If someone is going to make money off of reading my stories, I don't want there to be a middleman. Despite what I'm sure would be the best of intentions on the part of someone like Blimp Boy, I would have no way of being certain that he himself isn't profiting from this when all he did is play matchmaker.

- There are so many stories out there that - through some combination of ignorance, inexperience, and carelessness on the writer's part - already aren't worth the bytes they take up and don't deserve the audiobook treatment. If someone's going to profit from reading stories, I want them to be voicing the top 5-10% of content, not the bottom 50% that is riddled with shit.

With all that said, if a voice actress were to sell a recording of one of my stories, I'd be okay with it under the following conditions:

The courtesy of asking my permission would be nice.
The voice actress gets paid directly.
As the writer of the story, I would at least get a copy of the recording for free.
I would be fine with the actress setting up a Patreon-style arrangement where a $4-5 monthly donation gets someone access to all of the actress's recordings, as long as she makes a decent effort at producing content.
I think I'd also be okay with what Blimp Boy did in this case: an individual commissioning a specific story at whatever price that they pay themselves (i.e. no taking donations), as long as that recording then gets released to the general public for free. (A writer commissioning a story of his/her own is different; he/she could choose whether the recording gets released publicly.)
I would not be a huge fan of recordings being sold individually.

Just my two cents, for all they're worth.

Whoops, forgot to comment on the recording itself. Overall I think it's good - the actress's voice is good and she played the characters' speaking parts pretty well. I was a little thrown off by her reading of the narration, though, as it seemed disjointed at times (I thought pauses between sentences were too long overall) and didn't do a great job at conveying the rising tension in the latter half.

The good news is that those things can be improved upon without too much effort, and they're probably just a result of lack of familiarity with the fetish. I'm reminded of a few years ago when GingerSnap posted a recording she made of a story. She "got" the fetish and what makes us tick, so it gave her recording a certain X-factor that, at least for me, was lacking here.

I appreciate all the feedback. I understand that some people just want to write and act out stories out of passion but I do believe that there's nothing wrong with being paid for your hard work. I mean hell, there are plenty of absolutely terrible actors and writers for video games and cartoons that get paid a fortune I promise that I would do my best to make sure that all the money is distributed evenly. Hell, I could even take my PayPal statements and send them to a writer if they believe that there is something weird going on. And I'll make sure to tell her about your criticism. I think she was just in a bit of a rush to read that story, so she'll probably do better over time. To be honest, I was just thinking that I could put all of her recordings on a single website and then put a donate button for those who want to support her, and I could even donate a portion to the writers if they want a bit of money as well. I'm still thinking about all of this.

I think the content is great. She has a pleasant voice, she emotes well and while her reading of the text sometimes breaks up the flow of the words I'm pleased someone's making content in my favourite form.

I'm happy for others to use my writing in this context. I'm happy just to hear more material, but I don't claim to speak for anyone but myself.

I have recorded audio of stories from a male perspective and always seek the author's permission. I've had some knock backs and so those projects didn't go aheard.
I have been commissioned for a few projects but, to date, only recording material I workshopped with the person paying for it. If asked to read someone else's material for money I would want the author's permission before proceeding and would offer to split the fee with them.

I look forward to hearing more from your efforts, Blimp Boy, and have a catalogue of sound effects that might be of interest.

These are really good! She has a very pleasant, versatile voice that seems capable of handling a wide range of scenarios and characters. Personally, I'd love to see her try some breath inflation scenarios (deep inhales and the like), but that's just my personal bias talking. Whatever you decide to do, I'm really looking forward to seeing what you two have in store.

As several people have already stated, asking permission from the author before recording one of their stories would definitely be a good idea. Most people probably won't have a problem with it, but you never know. I know there are some writers who've quit the community over the years, and it's possible they won't want their work being re-circulated, depending on the circumstances they left under.

Also, as other posters have already pointed out, if you're going to try and make money off of this, I'd recommend trying to create original content, rather than using existing stories, unless you plan on cutting the writer in on the profits. Depending on what business model you decide to use (Patreon, paypal, etc.), you might even be able to permit user submissions at or above a certain donation tier.

Very interesting.

Having at one time been an inflation author and since I sort of live in the financial profession, my opinions:

It seems like you have three basic costs: Your time, the actresses time, and the authors time. All should be compensated. Asking permission is an absolute must, there is no other respectable way to go about it.

I can see a few different ways of doing this. You might try getting the permission of several authors (for the sake of example, let's say Luther Kane, Inflate 123 and Carnatic). Then put that selection in front of your customer base and let their dollars vote which one you do, winner take all. Then allocate the total sum of money received across your three cost centers.

You could test the market, to see how many people would be willing to pay whatever your per unit price is, then offer the author a flat fee, let's say $100.00. The author is paid, and anything you make over that $100 and after paying your talent is all yours to keep.

Naturally for any of that to work you have to have a clear understanding of your initial costs: yourself (yes, your work and profit are both costs) and your talent so you can have a good idea how much to offer your writer.

If, after you've budgeted your talent you're short on cash to the author, maybe offer them a smaller $ amount but with a % of the profits.

There are lots of different ways to run it. Even for when its not my cup of pervy tea, I still find it very interesting. But I'm a business nerd.

A little rough, but I like her lighter/playful tone and her acting within the characters is great. Only main criticism was often hearing her intakes of breath- probably not something anyone else would have issue with, but it was something that I found a tad distracting.

Not sure where I stand on the other arguements being made here as far as pay, but I absolutely think permission should be asked for and am happy that seems the concensus.
