I’ve always had a place for Dig Dug...not only was it an inflation based game (one of the originals out of the blue), it’s means of inflating opponents involved a hose into the belly and rapid pumping. When they released a PC-based sequel using 3D models, I always hoped someone would hack the game and replace Pooka and Fygar with cute little female enemies you could blow up.

I changed the graphics in a Dig Dug famicom rom.

Replaced the Pookas by woman faced snakes, and the Fygars by woman spiders. The spiders shoot spiderwebs instead of fire. Also, when they go through the ground, replaced the original sprites by mysterious feminine eyes. All very cartoony.

I intended to change the main player by a mouse, so the logic would be that the mouse is defending itself from somewhat seductive predators. But I moved on to something else before doing that. The sprite replacement for the enemies was complete though.

Character colors were changed too. Here you can see that I even changed the player character's pallete. Those were the intended colors for the mouse.

There's a LOT of untrodden ground with Dig Dug and honestly I'm surprised that nobody's really played it out. Off the top of my head, I could think of a truly inflation-centered sequel to DD having:

  • Boss characters that require multiple rapid-pumping attacks to defeat
  • Tougher enemies that take 4 or 5 pumps to pop
  • Different ways to attack the opponent (such as a melee-range blowkiss compared to the longer-range hose)
  • A female MC that can inflate herself

Et ced. Who do I have to bribe commission to make this happen?

Murkstorm

There was an arcade sequel that included bosses and tougher enemies (also power-ups and being able to inflate and burst the other player in 2-player mode).

Look up Dig Dug Arrangement.

I'm voting Puzzle with RPG as second, because I've played enough gacha puzzle games on my phone to see the potential in an expansion-themed Puzzle & Dragons. Instead of the Fire/Water/Earth/Thunder elements you can go with different expansion types (Air, water, food etc.) or focus it on stuffing/food and use flavours as elements. (Fun fact, there's debates on whether Fat should count as a type of flavour.)

That said, a certain wonderful person reignited my curiosity for tabletop roleplaying games and I've been trying to find out which system/setting would be best for 1-on-1 inflation-themed gaming sessions. I've already scrapped D&D as it's just plain awful for anything that isn't math homework with dice. Superheroes could be fun, I figure plenty of people here are into that as well.

Anything time trial-based wouldn't be a bad fit, imo. Like, get your handsome dude from location A to location B as he steadily inflates and explodes if the timer reaches 0. Bonus if there's other elements adapting to the countdown, like the music getting more frantic and panicked, or visual cues (reddening screen like "danger! danger!")

I like over the top garbo, idk

My username is stupid.

Better known as Poqato on the art scene.

A while ago I considered doing something like this with a scuba character who would have to find a broken valve to be able to reduce the air pressure of their tank. I'm glad someone else thought of it too :)

Maybe a light novel type thing in the vein of DDLC? Something with that level of interactivity would meld well with pretty much any kink. Plus it instantly becomes anime as fuck, which is a plus.

It depends on how inflation is linked to the game mechanics. I think inflation should be the goal/reward/a main mechanic. A lot of the "inflation games" are really just a ______ but you inflate when you get hit, as a punishment. Even things like DigDug, you could replace the sprites with the character throwing a frisbee till the monster falls over and it'd play the same. I'd want inflation to be the core of the game.

I think an RPG/adventure/point and click/interactive story game would work best.

It's hard to make inflation on it's own fun too, you have to have it interact with other mechanics in order to do anything interesting.

I've tried making a soft-body physics game where one guy is inflated for the duration of the game, and there's a guy held onto him by a rope, and he has a gun that can toss them both about from the kickback. You had to control the inflated guy with WASD and the shooting guy with the mouse (aiming and interaction) and try to escape an alien prison or something.

This sort of setup opens the door to more fun gameplay, BUT the size of the inflated guy doesn't change, but shifts dynamically and squeaks, popping when being forced into an invalid state that would cause the physics to self-destruct. I still don't know how you could have inflation/deflation as a core mechanic just yet.

A small open world game might be cool. Maybe like a modded version of GTA or L.A. Noire. Player to player interaction could involve all kinds of different actions and items, like meal substitute gum or an immobilization taser, etc.

A sub plot could involve visiting, working or infiltrating any of a number factories/facilities that manufacture inflation related accessories and stopping or assisting people who plan to turn the whole town into balloons.

Another challenge might involve entering a popping club and trying to last as long as possible. Bonus points for meeting someone there and exiting the club.
