In my youth I went through a phase where I was fascinated by ghost stories. I had vague memories of a tale of a poltergeist who tormented a young woman and her family, setting fires, throwing objects around the house, etc. But more interesting to folks like us, on a couple of occasions it caused her to swell up like a balloon.
I thought I might have imagined the tale, but a few flashes of memory and a bit of Googling later I had located confirmation: The Amherst Poltergeist
Accounts of the incidents vary, but the bit that stood out most in my mind about the one I read as a child was Esther screaming, "I'm going to burst, I just know I am!"
Man, I always love finds like these. Inflation always seems better when found where you don't expect it.
