A Curiosity I Found:Med Labs Inflating Pigs and Guinea Pigs

As I was looking around google searching "Abdominal Inflation" I came across some med.sites that were talking about research that involved putting "heavy rubber punch-ball balloons" in the abdominal cavity of live pigs and inflating them.
Some type of research on the benefits of the internal pressure on organs or something,I can't recall clearly.
Anyway,there was also several entrys on abdominal insufflation.
That is injecting gas into the abdominal cavity for expansion of the walls of the abdomen to allow more room for surgical work.
My neighbor had that done to him in a surgery,he said when he woke up he remembered his belly being really swelled up.
There was some early 1900's medical papers about insufflation on conscious human "lab rats" that volunteered for it,(There was inflation fetishists way back HA!)
The docs did a little local anesth.and put the inflation needle in between muscles through the tissues and into the peritoneal cavity(Doc.19thly may correct me).
The docs inflated the persons bellys so they could do some x-rays.
They commented that the "patients" had no discomfort other than problems with the gas migrating into higher regions of the body.
I hear that is most uncomfortable when the gas goes up into the shoulders.
Sombody may be interested in this.
I was actually looking it up because I wondered if it was a possibility for a person to do this to themselves.
I'm not too sure now that I could stick a big needle through my abdominal wall.That sounds really painful.
I'm sure somebody would try it.
**Oh I forgot,the guinea pigs were in the old research papers about insufflation.The docs blew up G.pigs and goats also.Not exploding,just swelling them up.
