Myth or fact: Can frogs really be inflated?

I would NEVER want to do this! I started thinking about this after stumbling upon a film clip on Youtube where some boys inflate a frog by placing a straw in its bottom! Is this possible! I would not to do it to a frog, but I would be interested to know if I could inflate to that size!

Inflation is love!

I don't want to know...it's so cruel :( And I don't want to see it if it is possible with people :(

That's pretty disgusting and cruel. What do you think? It's the same as a person. There's a good chance that kid ruptured the frog's internal organs just like a human and it ended up dieing due to extreme internal bleeding and poisoning.

And just in case you ask, no, you can't inflate with bubble gum. No, unicorns are not real. And I'm already feeling queasy knowing someone tried that on an animal and actually recorded it.

What the hell is wrong with you?

Aw damnit, right before the money shot in the clip. Ingeneous, but yeah, also not very cool to the frog. I know that pouch in the front of some frogs inflates, but sticking a straw up its ass...no, not good.

The youtube video is from a movie. It's fake. That means they didn't actually inflate a real frog. I hope this helps to quash your indignation.

I don't think it would be possible for a human to inflate to that size, at least not via a tube in the rear-end. It could be possible if the inflation was done purely in the abdominal cavity, because then you wouldn't be risking damage to your internal organs. Only your skin would be stretching.

Thank god it's from a movie. I didn't watch because if it were real, I'd lose sleep for a month. You can grow to large sizes by stretching your rectum over time and your stomach as well. Using air to inflate the space between fat, muscle, and skin.....don't try it.

There are numerous methods involving suits, balloons, and internal methods you can find quite easily. I told you about the pills of mine, as well. There's nothing bad with chugging a few sodas, either.

I saw this film when it came out and it was the first one i ever saw which said "NO ANIMALS WERE HARMED DURING THE MAKING OF THIS FILM". They only started putting that in after prominent animal liberationist activity, to protect the film makers, but i'm sure it's true.

However, yes, it is sometimes done, and the reason it's possible is that frogs have no ribs. They don't use their lungs primarily for breathing but their skin, so it's not so important. Their intestines are also relatively shorter than humans because they're carnivorous, so there are fewer twists and turns in them. Some amphibians actually inflate themselves as a defence mechanism like pufferfish, and others swallow enormous amounts of water.

Concerning subcutaneous inflation, of course this did once famously happen to Samantha Munns when she fell onto a helium cylinder nozzle. However, because it was helium, it would have been sterile, and helium is less water-soluble than most other gases, so it stayed where it was. I don't think anyone here would seriously try it, but then the problem is that for all we know, there could be people going off and trying things they've read on the internet, never to be heard from again, or at all for that matter.

Concerning sodas, i'm not convinced that wouldn't cause hypercapnia. This is something i've long wondered about, actually. How much gas from the gastrointestinal tract is actually absorbed in these circumstances?

speaking of Samantha Munns... missballoon you seem like the inquisitive type, so if you want to check it out follow this link

just don't go getting any ideas.

Heh nineteenthly I'm not going to quote your block, but nothing harmful from chugging like 2 sodas, 3 if somehow you can hold it all. How fast your body can absorb the gasses depends on yourself. I can't really burp, so everything I eat and drink stays in me. Also, look at the last few threads these days and then you will see why I responded how I did...I have been surprised by what people think.

You're body is an extremely complex machine, and when you learn of all the things that can go wrong, you wonder how you make it through each day. Just to stress this again, I would NOT advise inflation beyond the things we have already mentioned.

Ah, Samantha Munns...our accidental, extremely reluctant patron saint. :) I have a few newspaper clippings scanned in from when that happened.

you think she ever googles her name... she'd be horrified if she found this site, I googled her name and it comes up second. So in case she does come across this.

Don't fear, as much as people here are excited by the story, no-one here knows anything about you, you are just a name to us all. And therefore, it's not you per se that people get off to, more the language used by the media who reported the story, and how it is similar to the language we use in our stories.

I was under the impression that the whole "falling on a nozzle" story was phony. Not to hijack the topic, but was it for real?

It does appear to check out. The media which reported it aren't generally known for their sensationalism, e.g. the Guardian and the BBC. It was in the tabloids as well, but not just there.

I took it as real. It could have been false, but the newswires did pick it up as legit.
