I'm kind of a newbie here and I started this account, (being an inflationist myself) just to figure out more about my fetish. I'm just curious, does anyone know the ratio of Male to Female inflationists? I was curious because I figured that because the fetish included breast expansion that it would be more of a male perference than a female perference. However, seeing that there are a number of female inflationists here I could be wrong. Also, for both female and male inflationists, does your sexual orientation play a part in which gender you would like to see inflate? Or do you not really care which gender it is as long as it involves inflation?
Male to Female Ratio
The song to many dicks on the dance floor comes to mind lol.
I would guess that it is mostly male, 60-40 perhaps. Breast expansion is certainly popular with men and lesbians but not all men are into it, and women may like it from the inflatee perspective. Only a small proportion of the community are active in the forums and we don't even know the sex of most of them.
I have two sources of data for the male/female ratio in the community.
First is the user profiles. You've only been able to indicate your gender in your profile since the site upgrade in August, so the data set is a bit small (~600). But crunching the numbers gives us a male:female ratio of 6:1.
On the old site there was a long-running poll that asked "What is your gender"? Over the years it collected over 3000 responses. According to that data, the male:female ratio is 4.7:1. The numbers reflect a population that's about 80% male.
I have more confidence in the poll data. It's a larger data set gathered over a long period of time, and has the advantage of being anonymous. Women who are hesitant to announce their gender in their profiles might be more comfortable being counted in a poll. Additionally, you're less likely to get fakes as they won't be able to attract any attention through an anonymous poll.
Luther's comment makes a lot of sense. As a transgender (male to female) I'm not sure where I count on the tally, but I have "converted" my fiance and it would seem to me that the majority of females I have spoken to were "converted" by their male lovers. I have only ever met one female inflationist who developed it herself. So, taking it seriously, this is a primarily male dominated sect but female expansionists do exist.
But I would say that in personal experience the ratio is still about 5-7 : 1
Where transgender people count in the tally depends on how they identify themselves. Both the poll and the user profiles offer people the option to select "Other" if they don't feel they fall into the categories of Male or Female. But it's all self report, so I have no way of telling how many of the people who identify as male or female are transgender.
For both the poll and the profile data, roughly 3.5% of inflationists identify as "Other".
Most of the female inflationists I've met online developed the fetish on their own, so your mileage may vary. My inner stats geek informs me that personal experience rarely provides a representative data sample, so I only rely on it when there are no less biased sources of data available.
I would have never thought that the ratio was that close together, considering the number of people I've had tell me that they're surprised that I'm into it. Then again that seems to have shifted from gender to my plans on making a giant inflation suit.
Another problem with gender in the profiles is the problem that many of us guys have encountered: dudes pretending to be chicks in order to (1) get pictures morphed/blued and (2) get RP partners. Remember that whole slew of MySpace profiles that the same guy obviously set up in order to talk dirty with random people online?
Of the women that do log in to this site, an even smaller number of them are willing to play an active role. A female inflationist will likely get drowned in attention, RP requests, etc. Becoming the focus of a hundred horny men cannot be a pleasant thing. I've come to assume that a female profile is really a male unless I see a compelling reason to the contrary.
(Which is why I really regret losing touch with the couple female inflationists I used to chat with. Girls, if you're reading this, PM me. You know who you are.)
In this vein: How many of us are there?
I know the answer is much more complicated than the number of active accounts on this site, but it might give us some insight. We're certainly less common than your run-of-the-mill foot fetishist, but I always wondered if there weren't more of us than one might assume.
What do you think?
