I don't really see why you would even be upset by it because honestly it's going to happen people are always going to shit on stuff other people like. There will always be those people who will say "what the fuck is wrong with those people they're sick how can they like that stuff" no matter what you're into. If you like furries people give you shit, if you're into muscle girls people give you shit, if you're into inflation, preggo, feet, or hell even just big tits, or anything that is outside the deemed "norm" then someone is going to bitch at you about it. It's a fact of life. To take offence and try to fight back is an effort in futility. Those who are open minded enough to accept the fact that there are different fetishes out there wont say anything. And those who are close minded will always say something. So it's best not to let it bother you.

Yes, i've had a conversation on the thread about it but i can't find it right now.  She mixes up inflation and weight gain for a start.  In a way i got the last laugh because my "Five Stages" is sort of the same idea - make it as real as possible, not because i disapprove, but because i embrace that as part of the fetish.  There are just some people who are never going to get it, and whereas in the past they might have been the homophobic people, nowadays that's rightly considered unacceptable, so they pick on more obscure groups like us instead and they don't even know they're doing it.  We know there are women who are into it.  What does she make of that?

I just hate how it was  MUCH more popular, as opposed to, say, the laws of body inflation, which gave a more objective perspective on the fetish, you know what I mean? It just doesn't really give us a fair chance with the public.

nineteenthly

Yes, i know what you mean but then it's very common for people to jump on a bandwagon to express a self-righteous opinion.

I know how it feels, but we have to look at like this. We can say all we want about we can draw whatever we want to draw and they can draw what ever they want to draw. This feels like we are sexually discriminated for liking some thing that we just view as sexual pleasure. We can't hate them, we can only be ourselves and don't really give a shit about what other people say. There are reasons why we as a group like inflation artwork. I have been discriminated against in person before and it is hard to beat the common sense out of them, but really if we don't bothe them and they don't bother us then we should be fine. You know we are not hurting them by inflating people in real life. We are just wanting to express ourselves. And yes we maybe weird but a lot of people are weird. No body is perfect as my grandfather. So I know how every one is feeling by this hatred towards that deviation, but I can't let it bother me. I am not doing it in real life. I am not inflating a girl on the street. We all have sexual fetishes. Even the person who made that awful drawing or whatever it is. But we can't let it bother us. I agree with what nineteenthly about the self-righteous opinion. It is happening with gay marriage and it is happened during the civil rights and with women when voting. It is human nature to have self opinions about others work or sexual pleasures.

Don't engage. Seriously, don't. There's nothing to be accomplished here.

Mangapunksai isn't someone who's confused about inflation art and trying to understand it. She saw inflation art, and it made her uncomfortable. Rather than dealing with this discomfort, she's convinced herself that the problem is with us rather than her. It's not enough that we're a bunch of deviant perverts, which I think we all pretty much agree on. She wants to marginalize us. She wants us to be objectively wrong so that her discomfort can be right.

When she shows us "what a 600 - 800 pound person would REALLY be like", she's not trying to educate us on anatomy or biology. Inflation is unrealistic, we know. Showing us that it's an incorrect depiction of reality isn't going to spur us to change our ways. That doesn't make inflation wrong, it just makes it fiction. And that's a point that nobody is arguing.

I could call out the writers for The Incredible Hulk and draw a picture of what would REALLY happen if a human being were exposed to an intense burst of gamma radiation. It would be pretty horrific. But it wouldn't be clever or insightful. It would just be me being a dick. And Marvel fans wouldn't rally around to try to refute me. Most of them would just say "Go away, you're a dick," and go about their business.

And we can skip the "Go away" part because she's posting in her space, not ours.

And don't worry about its popularity. The Laws of Body Inflation was written to appeal to the inflation community. A Word on Inflation Art was written to appeal to self-righteous asshats. It's a much larger audience. And despite being the most prominent anti-inflation rant on DA, it's still not as popular as the most popular inflation art.

I did see it a long time ago but I really don't care what other idiots think about something that I find attractive. Arguing with anyone who's not indifferent about a fetish is the same as yelling at a brick wall.

Wow...had happily forgotten about this one. Agreed with everything LVK said. This was as trollin' as trollin' gets and you should not even give it the energy to anger or annoy you.

I have sympathy about not giving it the dignity of a response, but i think there are possible problems with that. I always remember how much of a freak i felt as a teenager and how unhappy and lonely i was because i thought it was just me, and it seems likely that there are people out there now who search for inflation stuff on Deviantart and find that sort of negativity, which is not going to make them happy. I want to provide a contrary voice in that environment because the alternative seems to be to worsen some people's self-hatred and make them unhappy. The fact is that it is the first result on deviantart. Nor do I feel OK about allowing others to define what kind of people we are. There is a lot of potential hatred out there and by keeping a low profile it seems to me i'm leaving a dangerous power vacuum. Encyclopedia Dramatica's entry on inflation fetishism is an example of the kind of thing that can happen when it's ignored.

Two things which annoy me about her piece: it states the obvious and clearly for most of us this is fantasy, and it lumps FA and inflation fetishism together, which is like lumping transvestism and male homosexuality together - there's just a vague impression of threatening "otherness" which she lashed out at, Also, while i realise they're in a minority, there are women who are into this too.

On the subject of realism, yes, those of us who do it for real are probably rare even compared to the rarity of the wider fetish, but we do exist, though i personally would never dream of doing it to another human being without them being extremely enthusiastic about the possibility. It's something i do to myself because i enjoy it. It's a kind of edge-play and people do all sorts of dangerous things in the pursuit of that.

I agree with Mr. Kane said. It's not worth losing an arm and a leg over this issue. There other bigger issues to face than people's hate towards us, like the economy for example. Or maybe smaller problems that can be fixed like one of my uncle's dogs today crapped all over the house when no one was around.  So, I say put it aside and let's just leave alone. Sure it will make us angry, but it only gets worse if all of us just engage. So yes don't engage.

With that strip in particular it has in fact been a while since i posted anything and i was uncharacteristically brief when i did. I agree there are bigger fish to fry but quixotic though it may be, i do in fact attempt to fry them. The only reason i'm not even more involved in activism of various kinds than i am is the fact that i have this fetish, which is useful scandal fuel! Then again, maybe there's a degree of futility in political activism and i can understand cynicism and reluctance as I feel them myself. I still want to be the threat of a good example if i can be though.

You like muscle girls?! What the fuck is wrong with you?

People are afraid or consider something outside their "norm" to be bad, so I don't get upset when someone negatively comments on some of my stuff.

Those of you who volunteered to be injected with praying mantis DNA, I've got some good news and some bad news. Bad news is we're postponing those tests indefinitely. Good news is we've got a much better test for you: fighting an army of mantis men.

My response to that ridiculous piece of writing only makes sense in John Cleese's voice:

"The inflation fetish is unrealistic? Oh, how silly of me!"
