I have been thinking about getting implants for quite some time and recently found out about adjustable breast implants that can be inflated and deflated post surgery, which to someone with an inflation fetish sounds like the best thing ever! :)
Sadly you have to go back to your surgeon for a fill up or drain them :(
So how long does you guys think it will take before we get implants that can be inflated/deflated from your home without any help from a surgeon/doctor/nurse whatever?
I'm assuming you're talking about saline expanders? Developed for mastectomy patients to allow for slow expansion of the surrounding tissue before a permanent implant is put in, they're now popular with women who want a large increase in size without multiple surgeries. I've never heard of them being deflated after surgery, except when they're being replaced with something more permanent.
As for your question, I think the most realistic answer is never. While the science isn't too far off, the limitation isn't in the implants, it's in the humn body's ability to recover and adapt after invasive surgery. Saline expanders are filled up under proffesional supervision partly becuase you want sterile conditions and medical grade saline and partly to make sure the skin/breast pocket are handling the increase in volume.
No sane surgeon is going risk the added liability of post-op complications from an unsupervised patient blowing themselves up too big and causing permanent tissue damage.
