Issues with inflatechan?

I'm trying to get on, but I keep getting an error that says "site not found." Anyone else having issues?

God only knows with that site. Last couple times I went there, spambots had filled each tab with CP. If it isn't a payment or hosting issue, it's likely they got slammed because the wrong person saw that stuff and reported it.

Life is always a bit better once you pop a few buttons.

I hope it's not fully gone, I was looking forward to that Dee guy draw those requests.

The guy has a Deviantart: http://dwarfpriest.deviantart.com/ (Please don't spam him with requests please...)

Nameless_0ne

It got taken down cause of all the child porn spambots which got flagged by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children..so it's gone for good until they can either fight it or find a new web host.

Celestial-Bitrate (not verified)

Where did you find that out? I just figured the captain didn't renew the hosting fee's yet.

Edit: Never mind I just saw the link further down the thread.

Bubblez101

With the way things were over there, it was only a matter of time before it got pulled. Every single day, each thread was spammed with that filth, the spam bots were so inefficient, and it was very very off-putting. I even boycotted the site because of it, though that only lasted for a while. I went back when they seemed to have slightly curbed the issue but then it seemed to start all over again. Posted a rant thread a while back on here complaining about it.

A shame though, InflateChan was good as an RP contact forum and the inflation morphs and drawings were great (even if the community were a little rude at times) but it was only a matter of time. Afterall, it was a 4chan-style image board where anybody could post anything. This is why we can't have nice things.

So it was taken down by the massive influx of CP spam? I thought that the domain had expired...

On the up side, most of my stuiff is either here, on dA, or downlaoded to most of your hard drives, appearently.

R03Master

You see, THIS is why I have over 100 GB of content downloaded. Because stuff goes down SO MUCH. I probably have some non-paid image content that isn't DNP that is hard to come by that I don't even realise is gone! Also videos from Youtube. Is there a thread for finding lost content that other people archived? If not, there should be. But back on the actual topic we were talking about, why DID the spambots target Inflatechan?

kidquetzal

Probably just because some chan format sites are vulnerable to it I'm guessing. Check captainstupids deviantart for updates.

LutherVKane

Speculation: spambots are designed to target certain web site software. I doubt InflateChan was specifically targeted; it just happened to be running the software that the CP spambots were designed for.

Something similar happened to this site, with non-porn spam fortunately. Spambots for Dragonfly CMS (the old site software) were almost nonexistent. When I switched to Drupal, which is about 1000x more popular, the site almost drowned in spam. If it weren't for Mollom, the site would be unusable. So if you're running a site software that's targeted by spambots and there aren't effective countermeasures available, then you're kind of screwed.

As for lost content, there's no specific thread for it. People make ad hoc posts when they're looking for something. I have no objection to anyone making a dedicated Lost and Found thread in the Artists' Studio and/or Writers' Den.

Heartchan

"Forced our hand in updating" while paraphrasing is key here. I am not sure how far behind the chan WAS but if anything it may have had a hand in the spambots.

There is an alternative at least for now. 8chan/inflation

If you guys got contacts with artists, point them that way. We've just inflated the life raft! ^_^

No... that's not me dammit! Though I appreciate the extra bouyancy.

superdean

that site is gone too now

Lopni

Due condolences, and I didn't visit the place for a year, but there's a curious detail in Chan's statement: "the spam filter was working."

Good luck to the new incarnation - let's hope they'll solve a problem of sorting out submissions of their own authors.

Just look around BI - no spam whatsoever. They'll need to work like our host (I mean efficiency, not format).

Edit: sorry for bs. Of course it's bots. Mollom rules! (for texts)

Inflatechan was hit or miss.  It had good content at time, but if they can't control their board, it is what it is.

You only need to click submit "save" once. There's a bit of a loading thing and if you press it multiple times during that loading phase it submits multiple commands to post.

(Not on here too often, replies might be slow.)

Call me crazy, but I think this is a good thing for BI.org.

Now would be the time make a few upgrades, draw in lost crowd, make it a bit more open for people to come together in ways that IC couldnt.

From the Captain himself...

"Inflatechan.net is toast.

"We have received a child pornography complaint from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) for your inflatechan.net domain."

After a rather long and arduous fight, CP spam has finally taken down the site.  Unfortunate, as it seemed the spam filter was working.

I don't have a plan yet, and with the holidays coming to an end I'm not sure I'll have the chance to enact one promptly.  At the very least, our hosting is terminated and the costs are forfeit.  I'll see what the story behind the domain is.  If we still have it, there are some other options for hosting, but they'll definitely fall prey to the same sort of spam.  We've put off transitioning board software for a long time, and now it looks like our hand is forced.

This is the only other public venue I have for updates, so look here for status reports."

Son of a gun...

Vac Hume
Vac Hume's picture

Well, that's a shame. I'm guessing there will be a relatively large influx of people coming to this site.

captainstupids

Yup.  I can't say much that hasn't been said already.  It did seem like the anti-spam filter was working.  The CP spammers managed to get past both the captchas we set up.  It seemed like our last effort was working.  We had around 100 automatic bans + removals per week.  I'm guessing one made it through, though, and that organization called our host.

The good news is we still have the domain name.  I'll see what I can do in the way of board software.  We looked at a few options.  I'm not sure if I want to jump to the BB-style site quite yet, or if there's something better suited to our needs.  Part of me wants to give in to the "make it yourself" instinct, but the question of what made inflatechan inflatechan is not yet resolved.

Maybe this is a better place to post than DA for site updates.  I'm reluctant to do that because I know there are more than a few posters here who take issue with what the site was and its user base.

EnsignMinneapolis
EnsignMinneapolis's picture

Well, I was thinking using PhPBB for the forum software should do. 3.0's pretty powerful and I got a forum powered by it.

blu_bear

I did like the image board format. This community benefited from having basically two main sites: this one which is more regulated and discussion-based, and inflatechan which was more of a content-focused free-for-all. Wretched hive of scum and villainy it may have been, but for many of us it was the front page for new fap material.

captainstupids

That's precisely what I liked about the medium.  I'd never imagined it would become a place with any sort of culture.  It was simply a convenient place to acquire content after bbw-chan dropped their inflation board.

Perhaps if I were to rebuild the site I'd have the content stream, like e621, and the RP stream.

Somedude

What do you want to bet that maxgrowth submitted the complaint after his Sizecon advertising got shut down?

GiftedShana
GiftedShana's picture

Um...no. Maxgrowth was annoyed at best with the outspoken few from inflatechan and here.

Cap, you may wish to consult with a lawyer.  My understanding of US law is that as a service provider who persued every reasonable effort to block said material, you are PROTECTED under the US safe harbor law and that the takedown of your site was in fact, illegal.

blackfedora

It pleases me to hear that.  Otherwise it seems idiotic and backwards that I could just post some child porn to some random forum and board and then alert the authorities to the porn I posted in order to have it taken down.  It's completley backwards with the intent of the law.  A nip a lawyer might teach the host a lesson in manners regarding their clients.

captainstupids

Unfortunately, this applies to service providers under federal laws, not to users of hosting service.  Just as a coffee shop can decline service to any customer for any reason, a hosting company can terminate an end-user for breaches of terms and conditions.  I'm going to see if we can appeal that ban still, as my account with the host is still active, but I'm not going to put up the site right away, as it's too prone to spam.

blackfedora

Except you already paid for coffee and they are withholding it.  You've a financial stake in this if I'm reading the situation right.

Arthiers

Still it doesn't work. :-(. I know that the people on that site tend to be very rude out of no reason, sadly, yet as many others here said, it's a hotspot, where the new materials or links to another interesting places appear. I would be very glad if Inflatechan becomes recovered or renewed.

BttrfliesNHurricanes (not verified)

Fucking spammers.
Maybe the community will coalesce on here again? We need a chan forum so bad. InflateChan proved it. It is really hard to share content on BI en masse like it was on InflateChan. You can't be flaky as shit on here.. :/

If I were Luther, I wouldn't be clamoring to paint a target on my back.

Let this site continue to do what it does.  If InflateChan rises from the ashes somewhere else, cool.

DwarfPriest

Well, crap. I knew I should have made a copy of that thread. It had a lot of good ideas I wanted to start making now.

EnsignMinneapolis
EnsignMinneapolis's picture

Well like I said, if people are looking for a chan-like experience to at least scratch the itch, The Inflation board at 8chan needs love... and it'll be upgrading to new software soon.

ThePencilAndPaperGuy
ThePencilAndPaperGuy's picture

I hope they upgrade sooon, mas the child porn bots are there now too.

This is why we can't have nice things people.

EnsignMinneapolis

One thing though, 8chan has a global report function that leads to a direct nuke of the suspect content. Also, they're protected a bit more as they're their own server farm too. That means any pull-down requests meet eventually with a "content was removed, and if there is any further complaint... you'll speak with a lawyer".

superdean

8chan page is gone now

bluepengreenpen

bbw-chan have set up a dedicated inflation board: http://bbw-chan.net/inf/index.html

They've dealt with the CP spammers more effectively than most, so it should hopefully be safer. Assuming you don't have an issue with bbw-chan, of course.

superdean

this page is also gone

Succoria

That's just because they changed the site's nationality. So do .nl rather than .net, and you'll get to the set.

It has returned! Still in a super, ultra, mega barebones state admittedly, but it is back!

Considering its history, I'm a little afraid to click that link.

I-Am-Betrayal
I-Am-Betrayal's picture

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that site infamous for massive amounts of piracy?

Joe_Monday

Well, it was an anonymous imageboard, so sometimes things leaked out that shouldn't have. Usually links to fileshare lockers for paid/subscription content. Really no better or worse than any other anonymous imageboard. Some particular inflation video creators were very outspoken about leaks when they occurred, and it's probably not worth diving any deeper than that. Policing anonymous users is hard, that's for sure.

The malicious CP spam was what made running the site impossible.
