Cora lay back on her beach chair, halfway asleep. She stretched her arms above her head, and ran a hand over her trim belly. “It's almost getting to the point where it's strange when my belly's small,” Cora thought to herself, “Never thought I'd get used to carrying around a belly that big.” But she didn't have to think about it for a while, she was on leave, her bio-electrical collector was about five hundred million miles away, and the only time her belly would get big was when she ate too much at the buffet.

Sam looked glumly at her reflection. A white faced clown with a bright ball for a nose smiled back from underneath a shock of cherry red hair. Giving the wig a tug, Sam stuck out her tongue at the reflection. What right did it have to be so cheery when she was having such a bad day? Not only was she late for work, her car had broken down, forcing a three mile trek down rain soaked streets to find a cab. To top it all off she had broken up with her boyfriend of over two years. Things had not gone well, and they still had several more weeks of work together.

Charlie watched Crystal examine the machine. They always did, there was just something drawing about it. The sheer mechanical nature of the thing made it a thing to marvel at, without even knowing its purpose. Giant presses, pipes, gears, and pneumatic filled the whole room. The machine used to be smaller, but Charlie had refined it, expanded its functions. He took pride in his work, ten years worth.

“Wow, what does this thing do,” Crystal asked.

Melissa had worked for the Chen Frontier Corporation for nearly nine years. She joined up after finishing flight school at 18, firstly working in orbit around the earth until she had enough experience to do the long haul journeys to the outer rims of the solar system.
