   No one had anticipated their arrival, and no one moved quickly enough to stop it. "They" had descended onto earth and, without a word, began dismantling every military on Earth. Those who resisted or attacked were vaporized. The alien things looked like car-sized stars, floating steadily on their obtuse bodies. All humans had come to let the creatures alone, all but one, one woman who was determined to find every weapon still available and use them in an often dreamed-of war.

A chilled breeze brushed along the pale-albino girl’s cheeks. Her short, tomboyish brown hair tussled in the winter winds. The hair on the back of her neck perked up. Fall leaves brushed along the side-walk with a gentle scrape, it followed in the wind of the afternoon while Maya pulled herself along. She wasn’t a big fan of these long, tedious walks that seemed to last a lifetime from her College to home where she still lived with her mother and father, which was a chore on its own – regardless of the actual ‘chores’ she was given.

Control 7: Neighbors

“Sounds like our neighbors are out for a swim,” Gretchen Lipshitz said, accepting a glass of iced tea from her husband. She took a quick sip of the drink and stretched, enjoying the lazy weekend sun from under her tinted glasses and wide-brimmed sunhat.
