Science has answered many of the world's greatest questions and creates just as many. It's natural for people to be curious in the unknown. Though, the one being examined is not exactly a comforting feeling.

I was sitting alone on a stool in the center of a white room. The walls, the ceiling, even the floor tiles were all white. The only differing color was a dark grey panel of glass. Behind the glass I could see the silhouettes of the scientists on the other end, most of them were watching me.

“I can’t believe this! On our week off, it’s starts to rain for the whole week!” Reina said as she pouted, she got the whole week off from training as a goddess, Reina had the whole week planned out with Gary. It was getting late, she could tell. She glanced over at the smartphone dangling on the corner of her side table, and checked the time: 10:45 PM, just about right for her new nocturnal schedule, the one that had formed since she had started using her fake ID and bombshell body to get as many drinks as she wanted. Jamie kicked off her shoes as she wandered idly into her bedroom. After an exhausting day at work, and with her friend's birthday party that evening, she'd decided about half way through the day that her brief window of time between the two events would be spent taking a well-deserved nap. Her loose-fitting white T-shirt and slim jeans weren't what she'd usually wear to bed, but she was tired past the point of caring. It had been a busy day at the party store where she worked, but she was the only member of staff working at the register.

The gym was peaceful, as peaceful as a gym could be with the clanging of weights, grunts of exertion from the gym members and the blaring music. Tyrone considered himself the king of the gym, as he was the biggest guy in the gym and as a result the other members gave him a wide birth to let him do his thing. Sitting at his bench curling dumbbells that were bigger than some people’s heads, Tyrone was in his element. “Hey there Adam!” chirped Tiffany, as she bounced into the lab and spotted the tall, lanky form of Adam at his work station. However, Adam was silent and Tiffany taking a longer inspection noticed that Adam had his head phones in while he was mixing some vials of chemicals so he had undoubtedly not heard her. Megan stirred at the sound of footsteps, but she was too exhausted to bother opening her eyes. It had been a long night already, and she didn’t have to check the clock to know it was far from over. The police had insisted on a patrol past her door every thirty minutes and a physical checkup every hour on the hour. It was an insane amount of bother, but at least it was all ending soon. Tomorrow – today, she thought blearily – she’d take the stand, and then there would be nothing left for anyone to fear. But for the moment, everyone was paranoid bordering on fanatical.

There was a loud “pop” and a giggle, and Severin knew that one of his fellow prisoners had just exploded.

Severin bobbed at the end of his string, looking straight ahead—all he could do without a neck to turn his gaze—and seeing the terrified expressions of the balloons adjacent to him.

All around him, both inside his field of vision and outside, were other human balloons: once men, now inflated versions of themselves. To the casual observer, they appeared as latex toys, with the barest of human features to indicate their former shapes.

As Brett approached the door to the party room, he briefly wondered about his stay here. The girls here were sexy (and friendly, a novel experience to Brett and to most of the men here) while the food (and beer!) was both free and plentiful. Again, he wondered about the brochure: "Eat and drink all you want while skiing! Lose weight fast!" He wasn't going to pass up an opportunity like that.
