Alisa could have had the easy life. Almost as soon as she could walk, she’d been trained as an acrobat in her family’s circus. It was long, hard work for little reward, but she accepted it as her calling and put all her heart into it. Then, when she was 12, a lottery ticket bought on a whim made the family instant multi-millionaires. Almost overnight, her parents shut down the circus and retired to a life of luxury. But Alisa knew she’d never be happy with everything just handed to her on a platter, and after a few months of “retirement”, she ran away from home.

I checked my watch one final time: one minute to go. As I pulled my hair back beneath my gray beanie, I took a few deep breaths to calm my nerves. I didn't usually get too nervous before jobs, but this one promised to be a special challenge, even for a thief with my… unusual skillset.

It just seemed like your average day. I went to work, I did my job, and I then I was fired. Don't ask how, I barely know. I went home around eight. Feeling depressed that I lost the only job I was good at, I just turned on the TV and watched a movie. It was a romance, which made reminded me of my late husband, Ricky. He died on a cruise that was supposed to be our honeymoon. Feeling sick, I turned off the TV and went to bed.
